The Thing in the Fens

If you're still exhausted from all that trompin' around the swamp with a cat girl in our last post-- too bad! Cuz today it's time to traipes around a fen-- with a thing! It's also been a while since we're seen joltin' Jay Disbrow around these parts, so let him lead the weird way, from the July 1954 issue of Beware #10. And while I don't believe this story made the final cut for our Jay Disbrow Chilling Archives collection, this freakin' awesome Frank Frazetta / Sid Check art did grace my Return of the Zombies hardcover, which still seems to be available through Barnes and Noble HERE! (Psst, you cooler ghouls will remember this book as the one with the bite taken out of the front cover corner!)

Devil-Music!

One more devilish tale for you before we move on to other horrific subject matter, this time from the March-April 1952 debut issue of Avon's Witchcraft #1. Some of you already know that I'm all about the Devil-Music, but despite a nice crash crash panel, this one just didn't pack enough heat nor did it cut the spicy hot mustard for inclusion in DEVIL TALES either. Nice inks by Vince Alascia though. And with this post, we complete another full issue presentation here at THOIA-- use the search engine to check the archives [or our new indices-- Nequam], you can get the other story titles from the last scan below which is highlighted by some really cool art from the great Sid Check.

Guest of the Ghouls

Shambling your way from beyond the grave today is Tale #2 from the January 1954 issue of Beware #7. This Sid Check classic was posted online last year at Mr. Doortree's blog but now I can't find it... so here it is again in all of its spooky, undead glory (we are looking at the entire issue this week afterall anyway.)

Fellow THOIA blood-brother Matthew Kirscht sends over an extra story for us today, a chilling Sid Check classic from the July 1954 issue of Beware #10. This one would have gone down really well with the Hangman’s Horror post from last Monday.
