If I Had the Wings of...

Can't have an Atlas Fest without the good old, piss poor dental hygiene horror of weird ass Al Luster! And if you thought Mr. Snake Fingers was over the top in our previous post, wait'll you get a load of this bird-brained Adventure into Terror (#23, from September 1953.) Plus, Carl Burgos cover art!

THOIA's February Freak-A-Thon continues with a creature feature science fiction horror classic from the September 1951 issue of Mystic #4! Seriously, is there anything freakier than Basil Wolverton art?! 'Nuff said...

The Death Raven Curse

Kickin' off the new year finally with another weird Armand "Professor" Broussard "Werewolf Hunter" entry, since it's been awhile. Illustrated by the gorgeously great, Lily Renee, these were fun little supernatural filler tales from the back pages of this fantastic Fiction House series, and loaded with lots of lovely good girl art. For just 5 pages, they really packed it in! From the December 1945 issue of Rangers Comics #26

Curse of the Fire-Bird

THE HORRORS OF IT ALL rises from the ashes of a much needed vacation with a hot little curse to set your weird weekend on fire! The always slick, and exceptionally sexy bad girl art from Ace great, Lin Streeter, really turns up the hellacious heat on this one-- from the January 1953 issue of The Beyond #18. GCD says the cover art is by Gene Colan.

The Bird Sanctuary

In case some of you are starting to think that THOIA is for the birds, well-- you're right! We ended 2010 with our bloody beaks 'n talons dripping, now we do the same to ring in the new year! The July '54 issue of The Tormented #1 features 4 gorgeously illustrated horror stories, two from Mike Sekowsky and two (including this post) from Mike Roy. There are a couple more from this ish in the THOIA Archive, check out the super creepy "Caterpillar House" and the bone chilling "Dinner for One" when you're finished...

Bird of Prey! >>> Nightmare

"He wanted to make the future secure for his offspring, but his plan turned into a bloody bedlam of shock!" says the contents page for "Nightmare" from the September 1970 issue of Horror Tales Vol. 2 #5. This is yet another 70's remake from Eerie Publications of a Golden Age Harvey pre-code story, and since we haven't done a side-by-side comparison in awhile, let's see the original Abe Simon version first, aka: "Bird of Prey!" from the April 1953 issue of Witches Tales #18... note how both versions deliver on that devastatingly gruesome climax!
