Vampire at the Window

Yeah, I know, another vampire post. But word came down the pike recently that the 2024 remake of Stephen King's Salem's Lot now has a release date (after sitting in limbo for like 2 years since its completion), where it will finally be streaming on MAX this October. I've been looking forward to it for a while, and since the original 1979 TV two-parter is one of my all-time favorite films, I thought I'd show you this funny little Atlas quickie from the October 1952 issue of Astonishing #18, where the vampire has a very similar Nosferatu design that is also very much like the Mr. Barlow character from the 70's version. Plus, we get some "outside the window" action, which, if you've ever seen Salem's Lot, you know EXACTLY what I'm talkin' about. CLICK HERE to learn more about the upcoming film (hope it's good!), and I've also included a related photo, not from the film, but from my attic instead!

R.I.P. Don Perlin (1929 - 2024)

News has just surfaced that dynamite Don Perlin passed away a few weeks back at the age of 94, and THOIA honors his comic book greatness with a precode double feature from his astounding days at Atlas. "Death, Where is Thy Sting?" is from the December 1953 issue of Astonishing #28, and "The Dinner Guest" can be found in the October 1954 issue of Astonishing #35. And after the posts, find out more about Don Perlin by CLICKING HERE!

The Dummy!

Some of you know about Mr. Karswell's love for vintage department store mannequins, so with that in mind we'll kick off Macabre March Madness 2024 with a lovely little Bill Savage story all about 'em! From the March 1954 issue of Astonishing #31, and guess what? I do believe I have yet another mannequin related bit of mayhem lined up for our next post as well, so stay totally t-t-t-tombed...

Come in and Meet the Folks!

Here's one for all the guys out there who found themselves a fresh new love on Valentine's Day. Hope things are working out for ya. and uhhhmm, well, you do know what s-s-steps in a serious relationship come next, dont'cha? That's right, --meeting lovey's parents! And real quick, there's also a lesson to be learned here about over-reacting and jumping the gun a little, so be sure to take some notes, for cripes sake! Oh, what the Hell! Let's squeeze one more story in and finish out the month of January 2024 on a screaming high note, eh? And let's do it the way we started off the month, with an Atlas quickie, this time from the April 1953 issue of Astonishing #24, and graced with some sizzlin' hot art by wild man, Chuck Winter. Midnight Massacre

Load up those tommy guns, ya dirty rats, it's time for a HOLE new way to send ya's screaming into 2024! Yep, while most of you will be drinkin' it up and smoochin' in the New Year tonight at midnight, THOIA and AEET has a whole different evening scheduled for ya! Two terror tales from the same great Atlas issue, spanning both of Mr. Karswell's blogs to ring out the old-- and creep in the new! So after you finish todays story here, click the banner at the end to head over to AEET for an even creepier celebration, from the June 1953 issue of Astonishing #25. HAPPY NEW FEARS, everyone!

Silence! / Don't Make a Ghoul of Yourself!

Time for a Double Dip of Dick-- Ayers that is, --by anonymous request! What's up with all of you anonymous people lately?! Oh, and since Brian Barnacles snarkily screamed at me for "more Atlas!", it's now time to kill two kooky bird brains with one post! First up, from the June 1952 issue of Astonishing #14, it's a weird and (shhhh! mostly) wordless tale of terror, followed by a ghastly graveyard ghoul-o-rama from the August 1952 issue of Astonishing #16. I've even rounded it all out with an excellently eerie cover by legendary Bill Everett! We're sort of spiraling out of control here at THOIA, so stay tombed for more as 2023 slowly winds down... down... dowwwwwn...

Reign of Fear

Endless rain in my area for a few days now, so here's a little reign for you as well! A weird switcheroo originally presented in the Spring 1952 issue of Astonishing #11, art by Sy Grudko.

The Werewolf Takes a Wife / Her Other Face

Double Header Day again, and get ready for two of my all-time favorite loony tune Atlas tales, both of which can be found in the April 1954 issue of Astonishing #32. It's a duelin' dose of monster maiden mayhem featuring hilarious horror twists on two creeps the likes of which I'm not sure any of us have seen around here in a while, --if ever! And yes, Werewolf Wednesday is a day early because I'll be busy for the next few, but also because I want to give everyone a chance to read these before posting again. And one more thing: even though it's still technically incorrect, please read BOTH tales before screamin' "cover blurb mix-up!" haha, wtf...
