Dance of Death

You know you've found the perfect summertime screamer when the off-register coloring actually adds a bit to the visuals for a minor plot point moment, haha. Top notch work from Russ Heath of course, and despite the rather predictable conclusion you'll see flapping its way towards you from page 3, this tale also provides a few moments of very lovely good girl art, dance action, and atmosphere. From the September 1951 issue of Suspense #10, --and get a load of that weirdly masterful Joe Maneely cover! But FYI: I also included a creepy Carl Burgos cover, courtesy of the March 1953 issue of Adventure into Weird Worlds #16 at the very end of this post too because it seems to fit that final story panel pretty nicely-- now don't peek until you've read it to the end though!

Robot That Hated / Robert the Robot!

The recent storms here in the macabre midwest knocked out the power in my lab for a few days, but we're back up and running, and comin' atcha hard 'n heavy with a rock 'em sock 'em Robot Double Feature! One is good, and one is eeeevil, but they're actually both love stories (!!!) and if you're scratching your scientific heads about that-- then read on! Al Eadeh spooks yer screws loose with a haywire classic from the February 1954 issue of Adventures into Weird Worlds #26, while joltin' Joe Maneely brings up the rear with a rip roarin' round of robo hilarity from the July 1954 issue of Crazy #7.

The Dead

A spooky little dead end tale by Dick Ayers from the February 1954 issue of Adventures into Weird Worlds #26. No big twist finale this time, just a thundercrack of realization and eerie implication to send a chilling shiver down your spines on a hot summer day here in terrible 2020...

Lost in the Graveyard / Missing... One Head!

Yet another Atlas comic containing two similarly themed tales of heady horror within one issue, and this time they're both from the Nov '52 issue of Adventures into Weird Worlds #12. And we end out the month with another double (be)header-- and another great Bill Everett cover too! Hope everyone enjoyed this fright-filled February! See ya's in March!

Too Horrible / How Beautiful?

The May 1953 issue of Adventures into Weird Worlds #18 utilized the tricky old "Eye of the Beholder" / covering of the face for added drama routine most famously seen in the classic Twilight Zone episode, in not one, but two stories in this issue. (FYI: The TZ episode didn't actually air until 1962.) And as creepily clever as Atlas is, they managed to make each tale in today's Double Header uniquely fun, and also frighteningly funny at the same time. And dig that spooky Bill Everett cover too!

Lost!

It's been awhile since we've seen an Atlas post, so here's a queer little quickie from the July 1952 issue of Adventures into Weird Worlds #8. And maybe we'll go ahead and finish out the month with a few more creepy Atlas classics as well-- so stay tombed!

The Gentlemen of the Jury!

I was asked again recently to help identify another isolated comic book panel that's been making its out of context way 'round the www, and you've probably seen it around too-- a tough talkin' dame putting a book store owner in his place while trying to buy a tome on black magic-- so when people come to me for help (in this case I was actually tagged on facebook), I am of course more than happy to assist. And here it is, the satanically penned Stan Lee script, and Russ Heath illustrated gangster tale (with a supernatural twist) that the perplexing panel in question is from, as originally featured in the April 1953 issue of Adventures into Weird Worlds #17.
