Forever Dead

It's Zombie Sunday Funday, and time for another variable spin on the 'ol monkey's paw-esque creeping dead classic, via the Sept. - October 1954 issue of Voodoo #17! Yes, sometimes paying a gruesome price to get your loved one back actually (sort of) pays off. I'd say "Be careful what you wish for!" --but in the end, it's not so judassy after all, --eh, Dr. Judas?

Creatures from the Deep

Here's a fun, and oddly to the point, 5-page Farrell tale from the Sept. - October 1954 issue of Voodoo #17 (with art that looks like some of it was done by Iger Shop, while the other half by someone with a completely different style), concerning ancient, massacred spirits returning for a successfully swift, boggy vengeance. Hey, where'd that wacky witch go?!!

Deadly Pickup

Wait, another vampire story this month?! Surrre, why not... I mean, the great splash gives it away but it's still a fun Iger Shop classic from the July - August 1954 issue of Voodoo #16. And though you absolutely see the ending coming from a mile away, I totally love how the final page backstory is revealed from the vamp to the unsuspecting hero. I like it so much in fact, it can also be found in Haunted Horror #6 too!

Zombie Bride

Boy, if you thought the supernatural end game motivations of our last story were unfocused and lacked definition, wait'll you get a load of this one! A fine example of Iger Shop art and unintentionally hilarious dialog, as THOIA's February Freak-A-Thon shifts gears a bit again into even more bonkers bridal terror-tory! From the July 1952 issue of Voodoo #2.

The Ghoul and the Guest

A funny little Iger Shop tale from beyond the grave, and from the giant-sized Voodoo Annual #1 one-shot (1952.) I wonder if Farrell had any plans to do more annuals like this, because damn-- 100 pages of grimy horror for only 25 cents (back then) must've seemed like the bargain of the century!

Crimson Death

Some very nice artwork --and how about that splash!-- highlights this Nodel and Alascia tale of voodooey vengeance from the April 1953 issue of Eerie #11. And take a lesson from this tale too while you're at it: if things in your life are getting stale, jazz it up with something terrifying, and / or deadly!

The Complete Voodoo Vol. 3: Werewolf Castle

Werewolf Wednesdays are back, (and as usual, a day late) just as is another installment of The Chilling Archives of Horror Comics: The Complete Voodoo Volume 3 from IDW / Yoe Books-- in stores NOW --get it HERE along with the other 2 va-va-volumes! Collecting issues #13 - 19, this is a wild wind-down of horrific precode horrors and jittery jungle thrills (lots of super sexy good girl art too) and plenty of scary silliness as well, plus a great intro by my good friend, Mike "The Howler" Howlett of Eerie Pub claim 'n fame. I mean seriously, how can you go wrong with a collection of stories with titles like "Screaming Shoes", "Corpses... Coast to Coast!", "Ape's Laughter", and (giggle) "Dead Man's Pajamas!"

"Werewolf Castle" was originally presented in the December 1954 issue of Voodoo #18.

Ohhhh, Brother!

Here's a rare example of a Farrell story highlighted by artwork apparently NOT created by the Iger Shop. Man, I could've swore I already posted this story here at THOIA over the years, (pretty sure the rest of the issue is), but a quick search through the dusty archives proves I haven't --though it is featured in our Complete Voodoo Volume 2 collection (IDW / Yoe Books) which is available HERE! From the Sept '53 issue of Voodoo #11... and thanks to E. for the request!
