THOIA's Friday Freak-O-Meter has officially gone off the charts with this terrifically illustrated Joe Sinnott terrorama from the December 1952 issue of Suspense #25. And if the more observant of you out there are slowly starting to see a pattern with the posts developing here, well-- you may be on to something, finally... sheesh!

A Monster Among Us

We'll leave all the hugs 'n kisses to AEET and dedicate the new month of posts here at THOIA to the February Freaks! So lets drag out our first eerie excursion from the scary 'ol sea, aka the May 1952 issue of Mystic #8, and it's one illustrated by the late, great Joe Sinnott, no less! Yes sir, batten down the hatches-- things are gonna get beastly around here for a bit!

R.I.P. Joe Sinnott / Talking Corpse

2020 claims another precode legend, all-time THOIA favorite, Joltin' Joe Sinnott has passed away at the age of 93. Boy, what a wild collection of awesome he leaves behind for future generations of comic book fans. His multitude of styles and vast array of talent for any genre continues to give everyone a little bit of something to marvel at (literally), and today at THOIA we will be marveling at just that. And maybe this story isn't the most appropriately titled tale to choose for an R.I.P. post, but it still showcases what Joe absolutely did best within the horror genre: incredible splash, terrifying monsters, superbly rendered faces / backgrounds, and supernatural inking! R.I.P Joe-- we miss ya already! From the April 1952 issue of Adventures into Terror #9.

Mad Dog

As if dealing with one deadly pandemic wasn't enough, now THOIA mauls you mercilessly with another eerie epidemic to have a screaming fit over! From the June 1952 issue of Spellbound #4, --I've also made sure that it fits into some sort of Werewolf Wednesday theme as well...

Deadline / Beware of the Chair!

It's a perfect day for a double execution, as we wrap-up our Stan Lee Tribute Fest of 2018 with a double header of doom! Stan penned the first story, with art by John Romita, while our second tale is a request fulfillment for more Joe Sinnott! Always glad to oblige that request. Both stories are from the June 1953 issue of Men's Adventures #22, highlighted with a spectacularly spooky cover by Bill Everett! Hope everyone enjoyed this 2 month stretch of precode Atlas horror classics, --and don't forget to give another toast to the one who made it all possible! RIP to The Man.

Find a Pin and Pick it Up!

My hellacious Haunted Horror cohorts, Forlock the Warlock and El Diablo, were lucky enough recently to meet the great, Joe Sinnott, at a convention, and today's post is dedicated to that monolithic meeting of monster men! And seriously, per the story-- if you thought Bill Everett drew some creepy old man faces (see our last post), wait'll you get a load of these gruesome geezers!

Vampires Drink Deep!

Finishing out the month in gorgeously moody black and white (and a splash of red), this time with a morbid Marvel mag reprint from Dracula Lives! #2 (1973), awesome art by Joe Sinnott --originally featured in the August 1952 issue of Strange Tales #9. Note the Atlas version of this story was titled "Drink Deep, Vampire!"
