Night Owl

Is there a genre for gory bowling themed horror? Well, there is now! Originally presented in the July 1954 issue of Horrific #6, (art by Marty Elkin), we actually reprinted this one in the June 2013 issue of Haunted Horror #5 and it's seriously one of the most insanely entertaining tales you've ever seen coming from a mile away-- twist ending wise, that is!

Death Wins the Fall / The Devil's Chamber

My new DEVIL TALES collection from IDW / Yoe Books was originally supposed to be in stores last week, but the date has been pushed back a bit to February 16th now. To celebrate the release, I had a smoldering pile of left-over devil stories (tales NOT featured in the collection) ready to help hellishly hype it all this month-- and obviously we're still going with that plan because today I have a few more! If anyone has a problem with this theme, you can take it up with 'Ol Beelzebub himself! :) "Death Wins the Fall" is from the March 1954 issue of Horrific #10, art by Max Elkin, and "The Devil's Chamber" is a one-page filler tale from the August 1952 issue of Adventures into the Unknown #34, art by Milk Knopf.

Grave on the Green

We're at the halfway point of the February 1952 issue of Black Cat Mystery #33 (check the last two posts for more), and in case I forgot to mention it, I think I always start off the new year with a full issue. Right? I think so. Anyway, we've already seen some monsters and scorpions, now it's time to drag out the most horrific horror subject that ever horror'd horror-- GOLF HORROR!! Don't be too quick to judge this one, it's actually a hole in one-- in your head! Errr, or something...

Skin 'em Alive!

Many sites have a preview of the bonkers baseball story, (introduced by yours truly!) featured in the grisly new issue of HAUNTED HORROR #5 --in stores NOW! Today, THOIA delivers an encore presentation preview of the freaky football tale that I originally posted here way back in 2007 from the Feb '54 issue of Mysterious Adventures #18. Hey, if anyone is having trouble finding HH at their local comic shops, please let us know-- we'll see if we can get a fire lit under some slackin' asses for ya!

Dinky!

I've been promising Mr. C a werewolf story for a while now, harkening back to the early days of THOIA's "Werewolf Wednesdays", and I'm totally surprised I haven't posted this little gem yet from the 1952 issue of Tales of Horror #7 (uhhh, I haven't posted this one before, have I?) Also, Craig Yoe and I would like to thank all the great people who came out to San Diego Comic Con this past weekend and showed their undying support for our ZOMBIES book, which incidently SOLD OUT at the IDW booth before the weekend was even over! We made a lot of cool new friends and met a lot of old ones; generally we just had a blast and really hope to see you all again next year! Who knows what evil horrors we still have left lurking up our scary sleeves for you?!

Wrestling with Horror

Nov. '11 is our "Month to Beware" and we're looking at select tales from this entertainingly silly horror comic book series until we can't handle anymore (um, I think we're getting pretty close actually with today's entry.) SEE! Mad science at its MADDEST! SEE! A grizzly bear turned into a watch dog! SEE! An ape with a human brain vs. man in the ring of death! SEE! A wrestler's blue shorts turn into tighty-whities for one panel mid-battle! From the August '52 issue of Beware #11 (Vince Napoli gets the art credit.)

Blood of the Bat

We're sticking with the Comic Media titles for a couple more days, and now we switch to the November 1953 issue of Weird Terror #8 for a knock-out 1-2 combination punch of boxing and—vampires?! If that’s not a bonkers enough concept for you then the typically weird ass, drug-fueled art by Rudy Palais should be.

TOMORROW: More Weird Terror!

Foul Ball

Brian Hirsch has submitted another great set of scans for us for today, a strange revenge story concerning (of all things) baseball! It doesn’t technically fall under my normal guidelines of “horror” but it surely contains some horrific moments! Batter up!

From the November 1953 issue of Fight Against Crime #16
