Back in Black-- Arts, that is!

That's right, after 15+ months of aggravating blogspot malfunctionery, it appears things are FINALLY back to normal around here (as well as over at AEET.) Hopefully it's permanent too, and not just some temporary "gotcha!" glitch set to dash our high hopes, while dematerializin' our spirits. Anyway, the less we go on about it the better, so let's do what this blog has done best since 2007, and that be deliverin' the hottest horror comics of yesterday --and beyond! And of course there's no better way to get it all off the ground (see also: out of the ground), than by conjuring up an excellent EC classic from the July - August 1950 issue of Weird Fantasy #14. You know, in a way, re-opening this blog is a lot like re-opening The Necronomicon --so let's be extra cautious and very careful what we wish for! Welcome back, everyone...

The Sewer Keeper / The Some-Thing

If the stress of the holidays have left you frightfully frazzled and eerily exhausted, then maybe what you need right now is to kick back with a good lurid laugh-- yes, a GET LOST double feature might be just what the horror host ordered! First up, from the April - May 1954 issue of Get Lost #2 is a hilariously gruesome satire of precode horror comics (EC to be exact) guaranteed to satisfy your atrocious little appetites-- followed by a chillingly hysterical parody of John W. Campbell / Howard HawksTHE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, from the June - July 1954 issue of Get Lost #3. Not to get too serious, but I'm a bit surprised at myself for having never posted either of these kookball classics here at THOIA over the years until now. Enjoy!

THEM THERE THOSE

Hilarious EC spoof of the giant ant sci-fi / horror film classic, THEM! (1954), from the Feb-March 1955 issue of Panic #7, with wild 'n wonderful art by Wally Wood. (You can also check out some funny travel poster spoofage from this same issue as well over at my other blog HERE!)

Murder the Lover! / Murder the Husband!

You didn't really think we'd allow the passing of legendary comic messiah, Jack Davis, to go by without posting a story, did you? CHOKE! But instead of going the all too obvious route around here with a trip to the Crypt, the Vault, or the Haunt, let's instead lure out the August - September 1952 issue of Crime SuspenStories #12 for a murderously intense, (or did I mean funny?), double blast ending tale that will either give you a real charge, or leave you feeling all wet! It's a story I've probably read 10,000 times in my life and will continue to read 10,000 more.

And once again, farewells and eternal thanks to the guy who made my life of art appreciation and comic book collecting everything-- to the greatest of the greats, the world most certainly will never be the same without you.

Beast of the Bayous / Drive In Movie!

Creeping along with our brief, 2-day theme this week of “Cold Blooded Babes” (who possess an uncanny ability for reptile transformation) is this fantastically illustrated, chilling chapter from the August 1954 issue of Hand of Fate #24.

Make it a double! For another great Gator Gal tale, check the THOIA Archive for--- Bride of the Swamp!
NEXT UP: Another Atlas request fulfilled!

Drive In Movie!

Drive-In season is finally upon us once again, and what better way is there to celebrate this event (as well as Double Features) than with a hilarious THOIA post about—the Drive-In!

From the June-July 1955 issue of Panic #9 (art by Jack Davis)
