Marry Me in My Grave

Almost forgot that I had a weekly weird wedding theme planned for June! So here's another one then finally, from the April 1973 issue of DC's The Unexpected #146, highlighted by one of Ernie Chan's coolest 70's title treatments ever! I'd also like to make a challenge to everyone here today to see how many of you can actually leave a comment without mentioning anything about the maid's name from this story. Good luck to all you Captain's of the obvious!

The Last Look!

Here we go with another eerie Atlas classic, and it's Robert Q. Sale's turn to sell you the rose-tinted glasses. Don't take this the wrong way, friends, but the last thing THOIA would ever attempt to do is keep any of you "safe from the trouble and paaaain..." (from the June 1954 issue of Mystic #41.)

The Spider Waits!

Time now to step into THOIA's parlor for another gruesome Golden Age tale of terror-- one from the February 1952 issue of Marvel Tales #105 to be exact! Fred Kida turns over a few stones to reveal the creepy-crawly underbelly of eight-legged evil, while Russ Heath traps you, and wraps you up tight with another terrifyingly brilliant Atlas cover image.

The Tomb of Terror

Most of us typically associate Lou Cameron with his amazing output of precode horror for Ace Magazines. But here he is at American Comics Group, churning out the same top-notch terrors, even though it's all wrapped up in the usual ACG "lover's in peril" plot. Lou really gives it the 110% treatment too with his weird monsters, great eye for cinematic framing, and highly detailed backgrounds. It's a fun, fast-paced romp from the March - April 1952 issue of Forbidden Worlds #5.

Till Death Do Us Part

Had a few requests for more ACG 3D-esque "TrueVision" stories, so here's a good 'n demonically possessed one from the February 1954 issue of Adventures into the Unknown #52, and illustrated by Harry Lazarus, of course. For a couple more similarly titled "Till Death Do Us Part" tales, check the THOIA Archive because man, I totally thought I had already posted this story, but nooooo...

The Double Brides

According to the Romans, June is the most popular month to get married (named after Juno, protector of women, goddess of love, childbearing, etc), --annnnd now you understand why I'll be posting macabre marriage stories occasionally all throughout the month. So let's slide right into one now, a spooky little tale from the August 1972 issue of Grimm's Ghost Stories #5... yes, marriage can definitely be scary!

Witch Girl!

Here's a cool Don Heck story about juicy jealousy and bloodthirsty black magic, from the March 1954 issue of Weird Terror #10. Nicely scripted, and good Heck art that only occasionally gets undermined by the less than perfect printing (I did fix some of the crazier off-register panels, though!) Some of you might remember this tale in our Chilling Archives Horror by Heck hardcover collection from 2015.

The Witch of Wailing Woods

Let's get June 2024 a'rockin' and a'rollin' with a hero vs. horror leftover that I had scheduled to post a few months back-- it's Plastic Man and his pudgy pal Woozy vs. a deadly voodoo doll dabblin, va-va-va-voom vvitch in a haunted house of fist pummelin' hilarity! Plus: bats, cats, a brutal goon duo, and even a couple of werewolves (which I guarantee you are not pronouncing correctly!) Great writing and wonderful, wild art, --I mean, it's not Jack Cole but it's pretty dang close thanks to the superb team-up of Alex Kotzky and Chuck Cuidera on pencils and inks! Guaranteed action-packed plasticity and fright-filled fun from the July 1953 issue of Plastic Man #42.
