Behemoth

Time to check in at the 'ol horror movie studio and see how the new SPFX are working out! It's a fun quickie from the March 1969 issue of Boris Karloff Tales of Mystery #25, and thus proves once and for all that AI technology has ALWAYS had a monstrous mind of its own!

Queen of Horror!

Time to wrap up the month of February 2024, as well as our Vampi Horror Host Fest! And this one is also from another early issue of the great black and white Warren series, the November 1962 issue of Vampirella #2 to be exact! Dick Piscopo's art has both good and not-so-good moments visually, but it's a fun story none the less, taking place on various horror movie sets featuring mummies, vampires, werewolves, and even a Creature from the Black Lagoon type swamp monster! THOIA will return in March for mucho more macabre horror hits-- stay tombed!

The Hand of Glory

Time once again for Weird War Wednesday (umm, have we ever actually done a Weird War Wednesday before?), --well no matter, -- cuz here it is in all of its high flyin' glory, from the April 1983 issue of Weird War Tales #122! And don't let the title fool any of you long time THOIA freaks who think you know what a "hand of glory" is, I doubt you'll see this ending coming, errr, until you get to maybe page 5, and / or if you clue-in on a certain character's name. And don't cheat and go running to look at the last page either, ya party poopers!!

Johnny Danger Meets the Gorilla!

It's been awhile since we've had a good 'n gory gorilla on the loose tale around here, so let us now salute those rampaging, savage Sunday Matinee monkeys of the silver screen (see Bride of the Gorilla, Monster and the Girl, Gorilla at Large, Murders in the Rue Morgue, etc...) with a fun Johnny Danger murder mystery on a movie set scenario! From the June 1947 issue of Movie Comics #3, highlighted with terrific art by the great, George Tuska! Yes sir, hang on to your slinkiest, sheerest nighties, --this one's a real corker!

The Monster

If anyone ever does a collection of Paul Reinman horror stories, I hope this murderous monster of Frankenstein spectacular from the April 1952 issue of Marvel Tales #106 is in it. I mean, aside from just being a flat out great story in nearly all pre-code comic aspects, it truly contains some of Paul's most panel packin' awesome work. The row o'four in the middle of page 5 for example should be hanging in an art museum, --or deadfinitely in a dungeon somewhere! I hope you all enjoy it, and I hope you all dug this full month of "The Atlas" tales, haha. Lots more on the way, stay tombed...

Terror in the Fog / Man on the Road

Two more extremely well illustrated tales from Fleetway's 1976 hardcover collection, The Valiant Book of Mystery & Magic (see previous post too!) Of course these chillers are a bit lighter in story than the usual 50's precode or later Eerie Pub horrors normally featured here, but that shouldn't dampen your enjoyment of the mood and atmosphere superbly created by these fine English artists, especially if you're a fan of 60's / 70's Gold Key or even the supernatural silver age DC series. There's a fun monster quiz in the middle of all this as well...

What Kind of Ghoul Am I?

After a few months of grueling horrors (and a grueling holiday yesterday), I thought maybe we'd kick back and dip into some lighter spook-fare before jumping back into the gruesome gruel. So if a ride with a va-va-va-voom girl rock group up to a haunted castle full of m-m-m-monsters sounds like fun to you, then by all means, please jump in the van! If not, just come back in a few days for more of the usual. (As a reminder: This blog is called The Horrors of it ALL, so anything even remotely horror tinged is-- and always will be-- fair game.) From the September 1972 issue of Josie & the Pussycats #64, with a super Stan Goldberg cover, and dynamite Dan DeCarlo on the story art!
