Grave Story

I'm sure that many of you consider a cemetery to be a nice, quiet, uneventful place. But today's terror-ific Tom Sutton tale from the February 1973 issue of Midnight Tales #2 tells quite a different, action packed story, indead-- errr, indeed! Not only that, but you're going to hear all about it from a very different perspective too! I've also included a vintage comic book ad page absolutely packed with mail-order magic...

Those Tentacles! / Slimes, Slogs and Glumps

The Charlton creeps are eruptin' from the deep today at THOIA, with a nice 'n icky drippy pair-up via the June 1975 issue of Ghostly Tales #106, as well as one from the November 1982 issue of Scary Tales #35 --and both illustrated by the terrifyingly terrific, Tom Sutton too! Things from the murky, lurky depths hold a special place in my heart-- maybe these slimy thingies will hold you in a special place-- in their stomaches! (2nd tale scans courtesy of Holden, thank you!)

A Budding Evil

Truly terroriffic Tom Sutton artwork highlights the July 1974 cover of Haunted #17, not to mention his story illustrations within are pretty darn visually demented as well-- why, a few of the more nightmarish panels in particular could possibly even give Rob Bottin a run for his monstrous money!

Satan's Angels

Speaking of black angels, let's take a look at another type of angel, the dirty, vicious, 70's motorcyclin' type monikered after someone who, it seems, is actually not too fond of their particular brand of pointless evil. At all. Yep, a story like this could have only come from a time era such as this, and I was seven years old when it first hit newsstands, I remember reading it and crushing hard on Amy, (the hapless redhead victim of this story.) Cutely drawn as only Tom Sutton could-- and having grown up in a house surrounded by similar chopper buildin', bad ass biker types, I also remember thinking this was just about the coolest comic book story I had ever read at that point in my life, haha... from the November 1974 issue of The Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves #48.

The Collector

Are the Febru-scary love stories this month ticklin' your lil goose-pimpled fancies so far? If not, here's one that will surely drive you to drink! Ahhh, so how about a toast to true love? May it forever warm the cockles of your blackened, beating libidos. From the September 1974 issue of The Many Ghosts of Dr. Graves #47, and terrifically atmospheric art by the always awesome, Tom Sutton (cover art by Joe Staton.)

Ghost Manor Creature Double Feature

Nequam was inquiring a while back about Charlton ghost comics, and in light of Nequam's recent birthday, what better time than a few days late (sorry!) to get this post up! No need really for an introduction for either of today's highlighted artists from the March 1979 issue of Ghost Manor #42, as Steve Ditko's work on Tonight I'll Dream of You (as well as the cover) is unmistakably Ditko all the way-- but first let's take a look at a weird Tom Sutton werewolf tale featuring some superbly atmospheric art. I particularly love the coloring and inking on this one, just wish it had a better ending... and Happy belated Birthday, Nequam!
