Bum Ticker!

If you thought our previous post lacked a certain amount of heart, wait'll you get a load of this one! From the January 1954 issue of Weird Mysteries #8, and like most of the stories from this infamous issue --which includes the SOTI classic, "I Killed Mary" --it saw over a half dozen different issue reprints, most notably in the later era Eerie Pubs Shiver Age!

The Wax Man! / Ordeal by Wax!

I took my son to our local wax museum here in STL last month, and we had so much fun I thought that I'd take you all on a terrifying trip to one as well! Our first tale in today's doomed double feature via THE HORRORS OF IT ALL WEIRD WAXWORKS COLLECTION is from the March 1953 issue of Chamber of Chills #16, followed by a steamy little number from the December 1952 issue of Weird Mysteries #2  --some of you might remember this one from Haunted Horror #15.

What's in a Name?

Mister Mystery was a wildly uneven comic series featuring both excellent examples of top notch pre code stories, as well as hilariously clunky, barrel bottom gems like today's tale concerning a hapless fool trying to pull a fast one, (fast = 5 years?!) Charles Stern's art here is about as stiff 'n flimsy as the script, though there is a minor moment where he's suddenly channeling (aka swiping) either Jack Davis or Howard Nostrand with a teensy bit of suckcess, see the panel at the bottom of page 3 (mad head) for an example-- har! Also, those of you out there who are model airplane enthusiasts might find that yes, life really does imitate art!

The Castle of Fear / The Disbeliever

Today we have two seriously messed-up Monster-Ramas from the February 1953 issue of Weird Mysteries #3 …both of which can be suitably filed away in the old banged up "WTF Cabinet." And FYI: for the 5th and final tale from this issue you’ll need to head over to Chuck’s Comic Book Catacombs sometime today by clicking HERE. Thanky Chucky!

The Disbeliever

We haven't seen killer ants around here at THOIA since World War III With the Ants. No wait, actually it was the last time the Orkin guy came by (dude's a bad ass with the bug drugs.) Anyway, I think in February I may try to cook up an "All Insect Week" or something. Anyone got any ideas or recomendations?

Nice ending, eh? Huh??!
