The Long Wait

Finally-- a post! Apologies, things got pretty busy around here this week, but the long wait is over! Oh wait, no-- actually the long wait has just begun, and it's a spooky Sam Kweskin mystery from the June 1953 issue of Journey into Unknown Worlds #19. I've had a few requests for this story over the years, and while it's okay enough, it most certainly doesn't live up to that spectacularly eerie Joe Maneely cover tease! See what you think...

The Mummy Walks

I had another 70's DC horror story all lined up for you today, but Brian Barnes "isn't a fan of 70's DC horror" so I'll save it for later and post it here on his birthday instead. In the meantime, let's camp it up a few notches with some funny, rampaging mummy action straight from Riverdale that you jaded horror heads might actually find surprisingly entertaining (yep, still in mummies mode around here) --from the December 1976 issue of Little Archie #113, --the special "All Halloween Issue" to be exact. And if you enjoy today's post, check my other blog later this week as I'll post another story from this issue over there too, along with a few other halloween left-overs. (FYI: 284 days until Halloween!)

Bride of the Pharaoh

I unwittingly stumbled upon a theme when I started scanning this tale from the March - April 1977 issue of The House of Mystery #251. Thinking it was just another similarly themed story to help further promote my new MUMMIES book (available everywhere NOW-- and HERE too!), lo and behold as it turns out, in relation to our last post-- this rebel rouser of a yarn is also about a princess! And to make things even more fun, let's resurrect another theme we used to utilize around this blog a lot back in the day by giving it the 'ol CASTING CALL routine. I mean, seriously, when I look at blonde haired Amelia Dole in this story, I can't even begin to imagine anyone else but Diana Dors playing the role-- but what say about Farook?! Give us a good actor, old or new for the part... maybe the best answer will win something from the Karswell Kollection too! Let's hear whatchooz got!

Princess of the Subway

A. C. Hollingsworth had not one, but two stories featured in the Oct / Nov 1952 issue of Eerie #9 (see our previous post if you missed it somehow), and yes, it's another bit of artistically uneven fun, but this time spiced-up with a little more sexiness-- and a whole lot more weirdness!

The Phantom Hitch-Hiker

The art is a little bit flimsy at times, but this is a fun one with some nice visual attempts from A.C. Hollingsworth, and originally appeared in the Oct / Nov 1952 issue of Eerie #9. Everett Raymond Kinstler's black and white art for the intro / preface on the other hand is as spectacular as always.

The Haunts of Devil's Lake

Kicking off 2018 with a jolting Jim McLaughlin tale of terror, from the April 1952 issue of Web of Mystery #8, concerning a beautiful indian princess and her tribe of living dead-- that live under a lake! Really nice art, and the story is fast paced and fun, but is it really as wild as it sounds? See for yourself, as we load up the fishin' gear 'n fear and head deep into the Canadian wilderness for 6.66 pages of underwater weirdness! (Cover art by Lou Cameron)
