Vampire Fangs (of Doom)

We've had a pretty full month of monsters this March: mummies, martians, ghosts, mannequins-- so howz'about we throw a vampire into the murderous mix too, shall we? Okay, now the Wood / Orlando cover of the August - September 1951 issue of Dark Mysteries #2 actually says "Vampire Fangs of Doom", but the story inside is simply called "Vampire Fangs." No worries though, the story itself still contains plenty of fangtastic doom --whichever way you sink your teeth into it! And after the story, head over to AEET where another lurid old vampire theme appears to be lurking around...

The Curse / Purification

If you've somehow never read Wally Wood's "The Curse" which first appeared in the January 1971 issue of Vampirella #9, then you are in for an eye-poppingly visual, horror adventure treat. I had a big intro I was working on for this but then ultimately just deleted it so you can simply take it all in for yourself and instead let the incredible illustrations do the talking. I've also rounded out the post with a funny little 3 page quickie from the April 1972 issue of Vampirella #16, highlighted by even more great cartoony art by Joan Nebot.

Back in Black-- Arts, that is!

That's right, after 15+ months of aggravating blogspot malfunctionery, it appears things are FINALLY back to normal around here (as well as over at AEET.) Hopefully it's permanent too, and not just some temporary "gotcha!" glitch set to dash our high hopes, while dematerializin' our spirits. Anyway, the less we go on about it the better, so let's do what this blog has done best since 2007, and that be deliverin' the hottest horror comics of yesterday --and beyond! And of course there's no better way to get it all off the ground (see also: out of the ground), than by conjuring up an excellent EC classic from the July - August 1950 issue of Weird Fantasy #14. You know, in a way, re-opening this blog is a lot like re-opening The Necronomicon --so let's be extra cautious and very careful what we wish for! Welcome back, everyone...

It Roams These Hills!

Welp, I feel like THOIA doesn't have enough W's, so here we go with a wonderfully weird, whacked-out, and wildly wooly, Wally Wood story for Werewolf Wednesday this week! Wow! From Avon's Attack on Planet Mars won-shot (1951.)

The Case of the Painted Beast!

I've had a few requests lately for any thing by Wally Wood, so here's a thingie tale from the October - November 1951 issue of Eerie #3 that I swear to gods I thought I had already posted years ago-- until someone pointed out to me that I actually hadn't! The story is a little silly with its kooky cop narrative, and boy do I ever love that beastie! Wood on the cover as well!

THEM THERE THOSE

Hilarious EC spoof of the giant ant sci-fi / horror film classic, THEM! (1954), from the Feb-March 1955 issue of Panic #7, with wild 'n wonderful art by Wally Wood. (You can also check out some funny travel poster spoofage from this same issue as well over at my other blog HERE!)

Blood for the Vampire!

A nicely illustrated Nodel and Alascia vampire yarn for you today from Avon Periodicals June-July 1952 issue of Eerie #7 (and fyi: you'll enjoy this one alot more if you read the crazy narrative in Bela Lugosi's voice.) Also dig that Wood / Orlando (?) cover, it contains an interesting visual idea of a vampire returning to his coffin to find a young couple about to stake his-- ghost?!

And speaking of vampires, enjoy this fantastic illustration that Drazen Kozjan created for my son, Zander!
