The Fangs of the Wolf

Before anyone yells out "deja vu!" please note that yes, I have posted this spectacular Bill Everett classic here at THOIA before, and it was waaaay back in 2014 HERE (also for a Werewolf Wednesday!) But fyi it was a black 'n white reprint / retitled version, and NOTATION #2: when it comes to Everett, you guys deserve nothing but the best (this story looks great in b/w though too, just sayin'.) From the January 1954 issue of Menace #9. NOTATION 3: tale is mentioned on the blacklight postery Gene Colan cover as "Wolfe's Fangs!"

The Secret of the Haunted Room!

Marvel Mystery Comics #92 was the final superhero issue of that series, suddenly turning into Marvel Tales #93 (August 1949), and thus, --a new golden age Atlas anthology horror comic title was born! And today we have the very first story from that issue, a chunky chiller chocked full of great art and snappy storytelling, and especially fitting (and filling) for another wild 'n weird excursion into Werewolf Wednesday! The ever awesome Atlas Tales website says the art is by Gene Colan, with possible inks by Frank Giacoia.

House of Horror II

Atlas liked to recycle story titles (see previous post), and who can blame 'em when it's a really good title! Take for example this wild and wooly weirdie from the April 1951 issue of Adventures into Terror #3, featuring art by Gene Colan! I guess we're doing Werewolf Wednesday a few days early...

The Man Who Lost His Head!

Here's another good terror tale from one of the early issues of Suspense, a rather lengthy, but still exceptionally well scripted, shivery, shrunken head horror adventure that's sure to leave you shrieking and shrinking in your skin with eerie exhaustion! And after you've finished this Atlas classic, via the May 1950 issue of Suspense #3, head off / on over to AEET HERE and get a load of another lost head that is now in the possession of macabre Mr. Karswell (WARNING: It is highly recommended that you wait an hour until after you've eaten!)

The Walking Dead

Welp, I thought I had already posted this one here yeeeeears ago, but I guess I just got it confused with all the other countless THOIA archived stories with the words "walking dead" in the title! It's a real good'un too with joltin' John Forte artwork and a ghastly Gene Colan cover to electrify your brain at the gate! From the January 1954 issue of Menace #9.

Norman's Nightmare

Here's a fun little nightmarish quickie by the always magnificent, Mean Gene Colan, and from the July 1951 issue of Suspense #9, (script by Hank Chapman.) And wowzers, I can't believe that April is already almost over, which equally means we're already halfway to Halloween! Must start planning the upcoming posts accordingly...

"The Haunted Love!"

A fun terror tale to spook up your Valentine's, and from the early days of precode Atlas horror too, aka the November 1949 issue of Marvel Tales #94 to be exact, (hence the wonderfully old fashionable look and tone to everything here.) Pencils on this one are attributed to the great, Gene Colan, and if the story title rings a little bell deep inside your lovely heads, I'll go ahead and make this a fine time to remind you that even though my 3 issue mini-series of the same name is long out of print, you can still occasionally find used hardcover collection copies online HERE at reasonable prices. Happy Horriday!

The Monster Makers

I've had a bunch of requests for more Bill Everett --and a couple for joltin' Gene Colan too--, so to kill two maniacal monster makers with one scary stone, here's a double feature actually made into a triple with the inclusion of a likewise titled old 40's horror film link! Whew! You'll be makin' like a monster yourself by the time you finish today's post! Our first story is from the August 1952 issue of Uncanny Tales #2, and the silly Franken-follow-up from June 1954's Wild #4.
