If I Had the Wings of...

Can't have an Atlas Fest without the good old, piss poor dental hygiene horror of weird ass Al Luster! And if you thought Mr. Snake Fingers was over the top in our previous post, wait'll you get a load of this bird-brained Adventure into Terror (#23, from September 1953.) Plus, Carl Burgos cover art!

The Devil's Good Deed!

Did you guys honestly think I'd end the month of February with a story about the Devil playing fair for once?! (See previous post, "The Devil and the War Bride.") Umm, think again, darlings! Instead, let's smell the magic and go out in style with a wonderfully epic, 4-page tale by awesome Al Luster about the world's greatest trickster truly doing his part to bring all you lovers together-- even if it kills ya! From the March 1953 issue of Journey into Unknown Worlds #16.

The White Bones

Ending out the month of September 2022 with a lurid Al Luster jungle jitter Atlas classic, from the September 1953 issue of Spellbound #17. Lots of great leering faces and terrible pointed teeth always populate a Luster tale, and let's see how the great white hunters fair in today's story, though what they're hunting for this time isn't exactly what you'd expect...

The Killer!

All the world's a stage, as The Horrors of it All shines a shivery spotlight on a spine chilling Al Luster crime classic from the April 1953 issue of Mystery Tales #10.

If today's story wasn't scary enough for you, just remember that Halloween is in 100 days!

The Little Black Box / Black Crows!

What October would be complete without an Atlas tale-- or two! Yes, THOIA is back in black with a couple of truly dark, mortifyingly mysterious terror tales! And jolting Joe Maneely lights it all up with a super hot little number from the March 1952, debut issue of Mystery Tales #1, --it's guaranteed to give you heart burn! Followed by a scary story from the January 1954 issue of Mystery Tales #17 about an 80's rock band from Georgia that released 8 studio albums and-- just joking-- it's the long awaited return of astounding Al Luster to this blog! And whoa, despite being one of my all-time Atlas favorites, this is the first Luster post we've seen around these parts in nearly 10 years! That alone should be enough to shake your money maker! ;)

After today's post, head over to my other blog for a hilarious "Splater Version" of Siskel and Ebert's At the Movies-- PLUS, a spoof on precode horror and Creepshow!

Beelzebub! / The Rivals

Somehow we went the entire month of January without a single tale from Atlas, so to kick off February here’s two classics for you from a trio of underrated legends. The Atlas Tales site says Matt Fox and Larry Woromay joined awesome forces for the first story, while Al Luster kicks consistant ass on the second… both tales are from the June 1953 issue of Journey into Unknown Worlds #19.

The Evil Terror?

Thought you logged onto the wrong blog today, didn’t ya? I am of course not one to delve too deeply into superhero territory around here, though some of you that have been with me for a while now may remember that I posted a wild Bill Everett Submariner story back in May (HERE.) Anyway, this Plastic Man story is essential here at THOIA today precisely for the fact that Plas and Woozy come face to face with a venomous vampire. It’s loads of fun, mildly spooky, real nice art (by Al Luster?) and hey, maybe some of you Hero Haters might be shocked to discover that you’re not so hateful after all… but I bet some of you will still gripe and complain anyway.

From the November 1953 issue of Plastic Man #43
