The Ghost Goes Ga-Ga!

I'm always looking for something different to post around here from the vast array of classic "horror" tinged comic tales published in the last century. And sometimes it works with you guys, and sometimes the whiners come out in full force and make out like there's only one kind of horror in the world worthy of mention, when in fact we know that's not true at all. (NOTE: Double check the name of this blog if you need further assistance.) So with that, I will say up front that aside from the incredible splash page, there is virtually no horror in this story at all, but it's still fun none the less, (even though the idea of teen suicide isn't), and overall it's like a kooky old 40's B-flick-- and ladies, you know you wanna see Jackie's bare buns just as much as the men wanna see crabby Kathy take a squirt in the mouth! And let's not overlook the super lovely Ralph Mayo art which is absolutely worth the FREE post price alone.

Gunnvor the Sorceress

From the July 1953 issue of Out of the Shadows #9, comes this quickie overview of an ancient 'n evil Icelandic vixen turned vengeful dismembered ghost - turned troll - turned giant water dragon or something (umm, 3 pages to cover this much supernatural awesome only makes me wish I could google it for more info, but alas all I get is Warhammer links), anyway the Ralph Mayo art is still pretty spectacular. I padded out this post with the usual cool Standard Comic text story, half page filler and a vintage ad... I'll have more like this all week too.

The Thing from the Sea

Bye bye November, we hardly knew ya. This actually turned out to be a cool month… lots of new friends and some really fun comments. Let’s keep it going next month too, and never forget that you guys ‘n ghouls are a huge part of this blog, (as much as the pre-code posts themselves), so tell yer friends, tell yer enemies, tell the thing from the sea… and I’ll see you all in December.

For another Thing from the Sea (from the archives from last May) click HERE!
AND COMING IN DECEMBER: Monsters! Ghost Stories for Christmas! Epic Sci-Fi Horrors! Another "Stupidest Killers" Weekend! And more! And how about a THOIA Contest where you pre-code experts write a story of your own and the winner gets to see it fully illustrated? Does that sound like fun?

The Ghost of Castle Karloff

Here’s a different kind of ghost tale, starring a spunky, Bettie Page look-alike trapped in a pulpy, supernatural nightmare of evil ‘n bondage. Hmmm… Karloff Castle, eh? Wonder how they came up with that? And I may be looking too much into the art here but does anyone else detect a few Bill Everett swipes? Classic front cover typo on this issue too--- zombie is spelled with two O’s?!
