Teddy Doesn't Seem to Smile Anymore!

Wow, we haven't had a Frank Robbins story around here since 2016. Time to fix that with a funny little 3-page chiller from the August - September 1974 issue of House of Mystery #226. Nobody draws cute women quite like 'ol Frank did, and here's a perfect example...

The Baby-Sitter!

The weekend is still a few days away, but who's got big plans coming up? I guess in our current age of social distancing and hot spot closures it's tough to find some of that much needed entertainment and excitement. But when you do find it, oh boy-- call The Babysitter!!! Just be sure you have all of your P's & Q's in order before stepping out, because you never know what frightening frame of mind people are actually in these days. From the February 1954 issue of Marvel Tales #120.

A Monument to Hy Fleishman

It is with a very heavy heart we say goodbye to our good friend, Hy Fleishman, who passed away painlessly, and peacefully earlier this morning at the age of 92. One of THOIA's favorite artists, Hy unquestionable propelled 1950's horror comics (and beyond) into areas where few other artists dared to go, and the best way we can honor the man and his legacy is to present two wonderfully wild examples of what Hy excelled at most-- THE HORRORVampire's Bite! is from the December 1952 issue of Dark Mysteries #10, and A Monument to Mortimer! is from the July 1953 issue of Journey into Unknown Worlds #20.

And be sure to check the THOIA Archive for many more classics by Hy. Our deepest condolences once again to Hy's family and friends, though with this sad news I will have some good news in the coming weeks regarding the Hy Fleishman collection that we (Yoe Books) have been working on for the last year. Stay tuned for more on that, coming soon...

Lost!

It's been awhile since we've seen an Atlas post, so here's a queer little quickie from the July 1952 issue of Adventures into Weird Worlds #8. And maybe we'll go ahead and finish out the month with a few more creepy Atlas classics as well-- so stay tombed!

Oh, Baby! / The Man Who Meddled!

Well, we've ushered in the Baby New Year, so how about a few more bouncin' brats to kick off 2013? Both Atlas classics today are from the November 1954 issue of Marvel Tales #128. And FYI: this is just the start of a THOIA Double Feature month! Hold onto your bonnets...

My Daddy Should Have Listened

IDW and Yoe Books newest book COMICS ABOUT CARTOONISTS is overflowing with wild stories about the world's oddest profession-- tales of cartoonists encountering situations where their illustrated creations literally come to life on them! And for you pre-code horror junkies, a few of these situations even spell out TERROR! Take for example the superbly creepy story featured here at THOIA today, originally presented in the October 1952 issue of Beware #12 (art by Vince Napoli.) Find out more about this essential Yoe book by clicking HERE, and watch the video preview by clicking HERE! ALSO! If you haven't already seen the Haunted Horror interview article in the new December issue of Rue Morgue Magazine then run out now to your nearest newsstand and grab a copy ASAP! You can also scroll to the bottom of this post and read it there too!

Bloody Mary

THOIA friend and pre-code cohort "Space Lord" (of the doubly excellent Fifties Horror and Ace Horror websites), was kind enough to share today's story with us, it's another Ajax Farrell classic, this time from the February - March 1954 issue of Strange Fantasy #10. A truly abominable bad seed baby, later reprinted and modified nearly a half dozen times for the Eerie Pub mags in the 60's, with one more vicious resurrection a decade later in an 80's Gredown publication called Reign of Terror.

Spawn of the Devil!

THOIA "Flash Forwards" into the 60's and 70's all this week as we wage full-on war against the coming of the holy holiday! It's a wild 'n gory, satanic shocker by Russ Jones and Jerry Grandenetti, and first appeared in the Feb. '75 issue of Tales of Evil #1, (published by the other Atlas Comics, aka Seaboard Periodicals.)

And just ahead: Witches! Exorcisms! Demons! And more SATAN! And possibly even a visit from 'ol Santa Claus himself too... you think I'm joking, don't you?
