When Witches Walked / The Haunted Castle / Howard's Vengeance

If you're one of those people who actually clicks on the hyper-linked issue name / number that I always provide here in these intros, then maybe you noticed in our previous post that our requested Artist of the WeekLin Streeter had not one, but two stories featured in that issue! And here is the other— a naughty little night train ride into terror, also from the June - July 1954 issue of Out of the Night #15! But up first, let's lovingly look at two nicely illustrated issue fillers, both featuring some really terrific work by Streeter, from the August - September 1950 issue of Adventures into the Unknown #12. Witches! Ghosts! Zombies! Satan! This is what you come to THOIA for, right?

The Vampire's Vow

As I thusly vowed, it's now time to get to some long awaited requests, and first up it's an ACG vampire classic from the June - July 1954 issue of Out of the Night #15! Mr. Cavin wanted to see something by THOIA fan favorite, Lin Streeter, and I am of course always happy to fulfill that request! So horrifically happy in fact, that we'll see more by Lin in our next post as well! Stay tombed for lots lots more...

The Spectral Bride

What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than by attending a weird wedding! And like our previous post, it too is from the August 1953 issue of Out of the Night #10, with Golden Age great, Art Gates, doing a swell job creating some fast paced, moody, midnight atmosphere. And as we plunge our doomed groom into a cemetery of horror for all eternity, here's hoping every one of you has an equally grave, errr, great holiday! Lots more from THOIA's February Freak-A-Thon throughout the rest of the month too-- stay tombed!

The Reluctant Witch

Time to head to the ball and have ourselves one helluva good time with another lurid tale full of demons and wonky witchcraft, courtesy of the August - September 1953 issue of Out of the Night #10. Really nice art by Hy Eisman too, a name that isn't ringing a lot of bells around here, --I believe this may be the first story I've ever posted featuring his talents. Hy's interesting bio can be found HERE!

The Awful Mr. Ishveli

I've been awfully tardy getting this blog updated in the last week, and I'm awfully sorry-- so let's turn that negative 'ol spotlight off of me and onto someone REALLY awful instead-- as seen in this demonically doomed classic from the October - November 1953 issue of Out of the Night #11.

The Fantastic Fan

Behind a rather misleadingly tame sounding title, lurks one of the better, and more original satanic stories from ACG's precode 50's terror output. Illustrated by Robert McCarty, "The Fantastic Fan" would certainly be worthy of inclusion in DEVIL TALES VOLUME 2-- if such a volume were ever to exist (*crosses / inverts fingers!) Thanks again to William Zepf for pointing out this tale to me, and for donating the scans as well! FYI: THOIA is always open to submissions, if you've got a good story in mind (preferably one that hasn't already been posted) and want to share your scans here with everyone, just drop me a line.

From the October-November 1954 issue of Out of the Night #17.

The Screaming Skulls! (X3)

Got a whole mess of screaming skulls for you today, the first bouncy batch of 'em from the Jan-Feb '72 issue of GHOSTS #3, with magnificently moody art by Jerry Grandenetti... followed by a bombastic bony bonus filler page and an encore presentation of a Bob Forgione story originally featured here at THOIA back in 2008, from the March '54 issue of Out of the Night #13. "SCREEEEEAM!!!"

BONUS!
