The Invisible Curse

Let's wrap up this month with a wild tale of witchcraft gone terrible wrong, from the Sept. '52 issue of Weird Terror #1. Todays entry takes off from the start like a possessed race horse and seriously just gets more maniacally delirious with each page. A dynamite Don Perlin and Abe Simon story definitely worthy of the multiple Eerie Pub reprint / re-makes in the 70's-- it even found its way down under into the Australian Gredown, Satan's Corpse, one-shot in 1981.

Little Miss Gruesome / The Unbeliever

If you remember back in February I posted a couple creepers from the late 50's Pastime Publications issue of Weird Mysteries #1, a black and white one-shot (click HERE.) Now today we have a deuce of doom from a similarly spooky all-star artist mag-- the November 1959 issue of Eerie Tales #1 (also a one-shot and now the publisher name has changed to Hastings Associates.) Featuring illos from golden age greats, Bob Powell and Paul Reinman, plus a nice painted cover from George Tuska, Eerie Tales #1 is a fun, and sometimes very funny collection of horror tales, and at 52 pages long, you were certainly getting your money's worth, as the rest of the issue included terrors from Al Williamson, Gray Morrow, Joe Orlando, Jack Sparling, Angelo Torres, etc...!

HORRORS

Werewolf Husband

Louis Zansky delivers the hairy scaries today, as THOIA's Werewolf Wednesday rises to the ominous occasion like a full moon over a rich man's castle! And despite some slight color registration problems, this is definitely one of the better lycanthropy tales I've posted here in a while, I think... from the November 1954 issue of Baffling Mysteries #23.

I've had a few requests this summer for more Steve Ditko, so here you ditgo-- a very funny, but none the less equally morbid tale of a murderous marriage disastrously inflated (and smooshed) to the paralyzin' point of no return-- literally!

Murder in the Mummy Room!

Saturday Matinee time again at THOIA, and here we have another story that didn't quite make it into my MUMMIES book (still available-- CLICK HERE!), mainly because it's pretty light on horror and much more a fun little 40's style private eye / murder mystery complete with a moody museum setting. Snappy dialog and pacing, plus a cartoony art approach that puts this one more in league with  say, Dick Tracy. So enjoy today's slight deviation from the (ab)norm around here, and we'll be back shortly with more gruesome ghouls and terror! From the January 1948 issue of Captain Easy #11.

The Twisted Hands

We're heading back out to sea (temporarily), and our captain today is the late great, Alex Toth, steering us headlong into a bloody tale of titanic treachery and inescapable doom. The fact that this story starts out in the middle of the ocean, yet ends in the middle of the Arizona desert makes it all the more frighteningly fantastic. From the February 1953 issue of Adventures into Darkness #8.
