Another wild one from the April 1953 issue of Chilling Tales #15, (dig the previous post too), and you'll likely see the ending coming from a few cemeteries away, but I bet you'll still have fun with it all the same! Henry Kiefer's spooky illustrative approach can be a bit rough at times, but it does the job unleashing a bizarre looking monster while also unveiling a uniquely odd, moody graveyard experience...

Come Die With Me!
On the last lousy day of the year, you can almost feel, and even hear, 2018 die screaming. And with the tragic loss of an astounding amount of talent in the entertainment industry these past 12 months (not to mention the tragic loss of brain cells in our own socially and politically divided country), we here at THOIA say adios to the old, and look forward to a much better new year with 2019. Fingers crossed. Inverted. But for tonight, let's take a traumatizing tip from the March 1954 issue of Beware #8, and on this final, flabbergasting day of a most unpleasant year, I ask you all to just simply--

Slithering Terror
It's been a while since we've uncoiled a spooky snake tale around here-- so let's check in on a sinister snake worshipping cult and see what's biting! From the September 1953 issue of Beware #5, art by Henry Kiefer.

Dinosaur in Grandfather's Barn
Here's a fun little tale for you fans of freaky dinosaur driven action and drama (like Valley of the Gwangi and especially Beast of Hollow Mountain), about a spunky city kid finding way more than he ever b-b-b-bargained for on a visit to the c-c-c-country! From the F-F-F-February 1952 issue of Youthful's Fantastic #8, art by Henry Kiefer.

Appetite for Death
Happy Thanksgiving 2011 friends, and as you prepare to gorge yourself on the usual trimmings and holiday trappings today, take a moment to sink your teeth into another terrible tale from the November 1954 issue of Beware #12. This tainted turkey is sure to tantilize your trembling tastebuds with an--

The Faces of Death
For the next few posts we'll be looking at the May 1953 issue of Beware #15 in its entirety. It's actually issue #3, but apparently back in the day publishers like Trojan purposefully "jump-numbered" their comics in hopes of appearing as if they'd been around longer. Beware was a notorious series, singled-out in SOTI as a prime example responsible for desensitizing children with graphic images of brutality. Among the scuzzy artwork, and ham-fisted writing, this issue certainly has it's moments...
Another "face of death" made a rare appearence this year, terrorizing unsuspecting trick 'r treaters and stealing not only their souls, but also their candy! The hunt for Karswell continues...

The Mark of the Beast
Legendary author and poet Rudyard Kipling is probably best known for The Jungle Book, Gunga Din, and The Man Who Would be King, but with today's post (and our second story from the June 1953 issue of Chilling Tales #16), we find Kipling tapping into the shadowy nightmare regions of Eastern Hindu horror and delivering one truly weird tale of blundering British Imperialism and its consequences.

NEXT: We'll take a second look at this Kipling horror classic as presented in Christopher Lee's Treasury of Terror paperback--- with art by the great Johnny Craig!

Black Death
One final, tragic tale from the January 1954 issue of Beware #7… and please, try not to let this one get you down. Just keep repeating to yourself “It’s only a comic book story… it’s only a comic book story…” Or is it?

TOMORROW: THOIA celebrates Edgar Allan Poe’s 200th birthday with three days of murders, curses, casks, and more!
