More Than Human

After a gruesome month of Atlas gems, it's seriously hard to switch publisher gears cold turkey, so maybe we'll do a few more, and later, ease into a more varied month as November progresses along. Sound swell to you? And let's start with a Mort Lawrence monstrosity from the April 1954 issue of Uncanny Tales #19.

"To Sneak... Perchance to Scream!"

Got another one from the same issue of Marvel's Giant-Size Chillers (as seen in our last post), this one a request from "Greg from the Grave" who had this issue as a kid and wanted to revisit the story about "the haunted house that tells the story." Well, this is the one my friend, and it's by Tom Sutton, deliverin' his usual awesome art, as well as a little bit of Harvey Kurtzman-esque humor tossed into the mix. I like these types of tales told from an inanimate object point of view-- for another example check the archive for "I, The Coffin" (the second story after you click the link.)

Creatures of the Bomb!

"The murderous fury of the crushing hand of doom struck as the creatures rose from the graves below." Eerie Pubs liked this Moe Marcus tale from the February 1953 issue of Witches Tales #17 so much that they gave it a redraw and retitled it as "Doom Creatures" in Terror Tales as well as Strange Galaxy.

Emily / The Unwanted!

Two sci-fi themed Atlas stories for you today, the first (by request) from the Nov. '54 issue of Marvel Tales #128, art by Pete Tumlinson, (apologies to those hoping for the foxy Emily as featured on the cover of this issue!) --and the second tale by Bill Walton from the July '54 issue of Marvel Tales #125.

Day of Doom

Everyone seems to be enjoying these Weird Terror tales, so let's keep it going for a few more posts. And wow, digging through my collection I realized I've come close to presenting a few other complete issues from this creepy crazy Comic Media series, so let's finish up the May 1954 issue of Weird Terror #11 with this one remaining Bill Discount tale about The Bomb... fyi: the other 3 stories from this issue already in the THOIA Archives are: "Mark of the Brute" and "Satan's Love Call" (both by the great Don Heck), and speaking of evil history repeating itself-- "Hills of Horror", is actually just a re-titled and slightly re-colored version of Murder Mountain, originally presented in the May 1953 issue of Horrific #5.

The Monster from the Deep

From the November 1954 issue of Web of Evil #20, comes another atom bomb age thingie unleashed from the bottom of the sea-- one that no doubt could give even Godzilla a run for his money!
