Still Life

The October 1962 one-shot issue of Tales from the Tomb #1 (published by Dell) is 84 freaky pages of varied anthology horror about ghosts, monsters, and all manner of eerie bumps 'n boos in the night. It's a fun, though somewhat mixed bag, with the real stand-out story for me being this engagingly casual 8-pager about an artist and his friendly female neighbor discussing the man's recent return from the cursed countryside. Their breezy cool, flirty conversation in a big city loft feels nothing short of a spooky stage play, slowly turning more and more ominous with each chilly page turn, until that single... final... panel...

The Skeleton / The Skin-Rippers

Our second Eerie Pub Double Header this month is a bonkers boney bonanza! Seriously, if "The Skin-Rippers" from the July 1974 issue of Tales from the Tomb Vol. 6 #4 doesn't make your flesh crawl then nothing will... but first, "The Skeleton" from the October 1976 issue of Terror Tales Vol. 7 #4, it's an insanely violent remake of an already violent pre-code classic from  Mysterious Adventures #17, (this one may even shock a few of you more jaded gorehounds with its carnage and brutality!)

["The Skin-Rippers" is also a remake, but its original story was published much later. Flash-forward to read "The Black Death" here! -- Nequam]

The Monster / Curse of the Vampire

Last month at Mykal's Bloody Pulp, he posted a cool Eerie Publications text story called Xebico that stirred up some "boy's club" comments because of the accompanying illustration that clearly shows a woman's bare breast and areola (click HERE.) One of his commentors asked about the frequency of "exposed female breasts" and it was answered as a possible Eerie Pub "rare sighting." Not to be one who rubs boobies in anyone's face, today we have two Eerie Pub stories also featuring briefly exposed female breasts, first-- "The Monster" is from the July 1974 issue of Tales from the Tomb Vol. 6 #4, (and coincidentally enough also a remake of the pre-code Harvey story I featured in our last post, aka "Transformation!") Our bloody back-up feature "Curse of the Vampire" is from the July 1971 issue of Horror Tales Vol. 3 #4 and also contains some memorable mammaries.
