Bargain With a... Worm

I'm not sure what planet the creators of this story are from, but here on Earth worms don't look like a blobby grey melted bag of trash. Even the creature itself is all "wtf!" about it too. Ahhh well, putting that completely deranged detail aside, this story is still a wonderfully weird, formless mass of anxiety and color. It's the kind of thing that made early days stories from Master Comics so bizzare and surreal... and they definitely don't come much more bizarre than this one! From the October - November 1951 issue of Dark Mysteries #3.

The Body Snatcher

Time to head back to the graveyard to pick up a body or two, via the October 1952 issue of Beware #12 from Youthful. Some of the art is a little wonky in places, but that's always been the macabre magic of Harry Harrison in my book, as perspective problems mostly always translate into surreal nightmares, plus he does a great job with the weird spirits and narrow, claustrophobic paneling. Love that splash too!

Back in Black-- Arts, that is!

That's right, after 15+ months of aggravating blogspot malfunctionery, it appears things are FINALLY back to normal around here (as well as over at AEET.) Hopefully it's permanent too, and not just some temporary "gotcha!" glitch set to dash our high hopes, while dematerializin' our spirits. Anyway, the less we go on about it the better, so let's do what this blog has done best since 2007, and that be deliverin' the hottest horror comics of yesterday --and beyond! And of course there's no better way to get it all off the ground (see also: out of the ground), than by conjuring up an excellent EC classic from the July - August 1950 issue of Weird Fantasy #14. You know, in a way, re-opening this blog is a lot like re-opening The Necronomicon --so let's be extra cautious and very careful what we wish for! Welcome back, everyone...

Rebirth!

Okay, enough with the hairy scaries for a while, how about something more slimy and formless? Maybe a tale of extreme cuckoldism + blobs from the deep (courtesy of the January 1953 issue of Beware #13) adds up to something weird and different? You'll soon find out, as we sink deeper and deeper into our Valentines Massacre 2020 love affair of freakish frights 'n doomed delights this month...

Terror of the Vampires Kiss

Like an undead bloodsucker creepin' out of its grave, we're keepin' the love alive around here for a few more V-Day inspired posts, so pucker up and get ready! And okay, I'll admit up front that this story actually holds no real twist ending surprises (no big deal though it is pretty great none the less), but what today's post does possess is a rather refreshing lead male character who, --unlike the typical monster pummlin' macho manly men we find in these types of supernatural terror tales-- is actually just a big 'ol screamin' weenie pants! From the June 1952 issue of Mysterious Adventures #8.

Pursued / The Screaming Skull

Well, we've come this far with the December 1952 issue of Chilling Tales #13, might as well finish it out for another FULL ISSUE THOIA presentation! It's definitely been a while since we've had a screaming skull story, so here we go with a rather soggy double header (one by land, and one by sea, and both are pretty much the exact same tale o'vengeance), but first we'll dive into the eerie, dark depths-- just try not to get water up your noses! Classic cover art by Matt Fox.
