The Voice from Venus

Time to take it to the stars for a story of outer space love, all wrapped up rather nicely in some over the top insanity and isolation as only Robert Q. Sale can do it! RQ unloads a startlingly bonkers one here, so sit back and tune in to a true terror tale of tomorrow-- and b-b-b-beyond! From the February 1954 issue of Journey into Unknown Worlds #24.

Love Trap

My buddy Richard sent over this fun Iger Shop illustrated tale from the June 1953 issue of Strange Fantasy #6.  He also profusely apologizes for the blurriness on page 4! No worries though, this scary space story is still a blast, and somehow fits nicely within our month of posts-- I mean, it certainly feels like Farrell trying their hand at an Atlas style sci-fi horror 5-pager, doesn't it? Annnnd if anybody is singing "Love Trap" to the tune of "Love Shack", I beg you stop it now. I mean it...

Civilized!

There's another fun sci-fi horror tale in the August - September 1953 issue of Weird Mysteries #6 (see our previous post), and this one comes loaded with plenty of EC Weird Science and Wally Wood style illustrative inspiration, right down to that crazy, uncivilized climax! Prepare yourself now for blast off...

Death Ship

The highly unlikely, artistic credit guess in our previous post HERE sent me on quest to find an actual story containing actual art by joltin' Jay Disbrow. And I believe I found a good one, (well, good for me anyway because I love tragically unhappy endings!) --this time from the March 1954 issue of Ghostly Weird Stories #122. Please scroll down and compare the two posts. You will immediately notice that there is, in fact, no comparison. Disbrow has a very distinct style (especially with faces, as one example), which is absolutely non-existent in the "Revenge!" story. But enough complaining, prepare to blast-off into the brutal reality of scary space with this sizzlin' Star Publications, sci-fi screamer, complete with an extra awesome, blacklight poster-esque L.B. Cole cover. (Don't forget the Kleenex, you whiners!)

The Night in the Horror-Hotel

Our month long lurid love-In concludes with a Skywald freak-fest from the February 1974 issue of Nightmare #17. It's a rockin' little number that will hopefully serenade a few of you less-than-pleased commenters into a better "horror-mood" around here. Fantastic cover painting by bad ass Boada too! And lots more coming in March-- so stay tombed!

A Fate Worse Than Death

We've got love taking the 'ol plunge over at AEET today (click the last image below in today's post for it.) Meanwhile, here at THOIA we're shooting for the scary 'ol stars! So yeah, speaking of a "match made in heaven" --eeek! From the May 1954 issue of Menace #11, (final issue), with art by Sy Moskowitz.

The Stooge / Man from Outer Space

You really have to give the Atlas writers a hand, because occasionally they would come up with a fun idea for a story, and then apparently like it so much they'd do it again a half dozen issues later (with a few changes) in the same comic series. Take for example "The Stooge" from the March 1953 issue of Uncanny Tales #6 vs. Bob Powell's"The Man from Outer Space" in the Sept '53 issue of Uncanny Tales #12

More Deadly Than the Male

If you landed here today hoping to see some spacemen beat off some aliens, then congratulations, --you came to the right place! This is a wild one from the October 1953 issue of Weird Mysteries #7, and if to some of you this all seems a bit familiar, it's because I posted it back in 2012 in B/W-- HERE
