Bewitched

Today's story would've been a good one to save for a witchcrafty "Halfway to Halloween" presentation post. Unfortunately, we're still shivering in the first week of a very wintery March-- brrr! Ahh well, just imagine that it's actually Walpurgisnacht, or even Halloween itself, get into costume (don't forget the devil's bane!) and head on over for a party to end all parties properly-- with a black magic powered seance! And slow down a second now, or you'll forget to bring the catnip too! From the Dec. 1954 issue of Dark Mysteries #21.

Welcome to the Vampire Picnic!

Two'fer Tuesday with a deadly Vampire Double Creature Feature, and both from the September 1953 issue of Mister Mystery #13 too! And Tony Mortellaro returns with a scrumptious feast of food and fear to frazzle your digestive system, but first up it's Gerald Altman again as well with some really good, and weirdly not-so-good art, --but seriously, those vampire panels on page three are some of my all-time favorites ever-- ROWR!! Do I even need to mention the iconic Bernard Baily cover classic on this issue?! *GLUB!

Flames of Hate

The Horrors of it All turns up the heat once more, as well as the hate, for a creepy-crispy, executioner tale of eerie evil from the October 1954 issue of Dark Mysteries #20. "When you're hot, you're hot," or so they say...

Terror of the Stolen Legs

Like our last post, here's another wonderfully wild, and highly deranged story from the June 1954 issue of Dark Mysteries #18, one so full of mean spirited, gut wrenching, nazi mad science violence, that you might actually begin to ponder whether Wertham was on to something! Fans of Haunted Horror will also undoubtably remember this one, as we featured it in the unforgettable, October 2017 issue of HH#30.

Perfect Hideout! / Preview of Death

The Ziff-Davis Winter 1951 one-shot, Eerie Adventures #1 has some frightfully fun stuff in it. Most notably this 5-page tale of mad science miscalculation and murder which we also featured in Haunted Horror #18 back in 2015. Realizing that I've never posted anything from this issue here at THOIA over the years though, I thought we'd give this one another looksie, and even round it out with a one page quickie (from the same Eerie issue), with a spooky story that borrows just a wee bit from E. F. Benson's classic, The Bus Conductor. "Just room for one inside, sir..."

The Garcon / The Silly Sorceress

It's a day early, but we're still serving up this horrifically silly, holiday Double "Eature" for Thanksgiving 2019 anyway, and boy oh boy, it definitely doesn't get much more so than these two doofy dishes! First up, an encore presentation of the totally insane, The Garcon, (which originally appeared here at THOIA way back in 2008), and from the March 1954 issue of Weird Mysteries #9. It racked up over a dozen comments back in the day and I thought it time to reheat it once more for those of you that might have missed it-- or even for those of you that require seconds! Followed by a cute lil turkey huntin', pilgrim in pretty peril, tale of the stupernatural, from the Winter 1954 - '55 issue of Phantom Lady #5. Happy holiday everyone, and as always-- remember to eat irresponsibly!

The Stolen Soul

Despite Gerald Altman's wildly uneven art in this one, it's a fun, offbeat tale about a dummy carved from a stolen cemetery casket, and the weird affection the little fella holds for his home, aka the grave. This is the last tale from the May 1953 issue of Beware #15, hope you enjoyed it (the entire issue is now posted.)
