We're halfway to Halloween again already, and typically on this day (aka Walpurgisnacht) I tend to feature posts themed a little more on the witchier side of things. But since this great Mack Martin: Private Investigator tale from the March 1949 issue of Super-Mystery Comics V8 #4 takes place during a costumed masquerade party, I think it still fits the holiday bill nicely. It's a super fun, super duper mystery of the highest caliber, with an assortment of diabolical suspects all dressed as Death itself! There's plenty of thrills, chills, furious fisticuffs action, and laugh out loud dialog too, along with some superb artwork from ever reliable Rudy Palais --who also created that great cover design (FYI: the added mummy themed cover at the end of the post remains uncredited.) I hope everyone enjoyed this month of posts, and I promise that May will be even more morbid than ever! Stay tombed...

Bewitched
Today's story would've been a good one to save for a witchcrafty "Halfway to Halloween" presentation post. Unfortunately, we're still shivering in the first week of a very wintery March-- brrr! Ahh well, just imagine that it's actually Walpurgisnacht, or even Halloween itself, get into costume (don't forget the devil's bane!) and head on over for a party to end all parties properly-- with a black magic powered seance! And slow down a second now, or you'll forget to bring the catnip too! From the Dec. 1954 issue of Dark Mysteries #21.

Maker of Monsters!
One last post for October 2024, and of course as promised, it's the fourth and final petrifyin' Plastic Man horror tale, as part of our "Spotlight Character of the Month!" And like our las Plas story, it's also from the March 1953 issue of Plastic Man #40 (what an issue btw!) and features even more incredible, action packed monster art mayhem, and laugh-out-loud lines of dialog. So before you make yourself up into a monster for Halloween tonight, read "Maker of Monsters!" --and we'll see you all next month for lots more too! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

"I Hired a Ghost!"
An appropriately themed Halloween party in a haunted house tale from the May 1953 issue of House of Mystery #14, with classic art by Leonard Starr and Bruno Premiani. And yes, maybe you're one of the odd ducks just now discovering THOIA, (really?!) --so as the eerie invite below states: "You Are Invited To Enter And Join In Our Fun!" Have a great holiday everyone, burn the midnight fires this evening, and we'll see you all next month for lots rots more!

Trick or Treat
Whenever it's Mr. Karswell's birthday, you can safely scream "May Day! May Day!" while also knowing deep down in your evil little black hearts that we're at the half-way point in the year to Halloween! And if you're not too exhausted from unsafely Walpurgising your brains out last night, let us now further celebrate all ominous occasions mentioned (because every day is Halloween around here) with an overlooked Sterling Comics gem by Mike Sekowsky, from the May 1955 issue of Surprise Adventures #4.

The Mummy Walks
I had another 70's DC horror story all lined up for you today, but Brian Barnes "isn't a fan of 70's DC horror" so I'll save it for later and post it here on his birthday instead. In the meantime, let's camp it up a few notches with some funny, rampaging mummy action straight from Riverdale that you jaded horror heads might actually find surprisingly entertaining (yep, still in mummies mode around here) --from the December 1976 issue of Little Archie #113, --the special "All Halloween Issue" to be exact. And if you enjoy today's post, check my other blog later this week as I'll post another story from this issue over there too, along with a few other halloween left-overs. (FYI: 284 days until Halloween!)
