The Stooge / Man from Outer Space

You really have to give the Atlas writers a hand, because occasionally they would come up with a fun idea for a story, and then apparently like it so much they'd do it again a half dozen issues later (with a few changes) in the same comic series. Take for example "The Stooge" from the March 1953 issue of Uncanny Tales #6 vs. Bob Powell's"The Man from Outer Space" in the Sept '53 issue of Uncanny Tales #12

Grave's End

Time for something a little more serious now from the same grave issue as our last Chamber of Chills #24 post. And for a brief 5-pager, Bob Powell fills every panel to the brim with outstanding funeral mood and atmosphere. If that ain't enough, check out that bone-chilling Lee Elias cover classic!

Ghost Hounds of Trelawney

A ferocious Bob Powell story from the May 1952 issue of Fawcett's Beware! Terror Tales #1 kicks off our November 2023 series of posts, and features 12 pages of truly amazing artwork. So impressive, in fact, Charlton reprinted it a mere 2 years later in the November 1954 issue of The Thing #17, for some reason re-titling it as, "Weird Legend of Trelawney."

Locked In!

Time now for a creepy Atlas classic by Bob Powell, from the May 1954 issue of Menace #11 (love those ghastly ghosts) and highlighted by a menacingly iconic cover by Harry Anderson.

Deadly Acres

If the horrible little acres of our last post didn't kill ya hard enough, here's a few more deadly acres that'll either put you totally six feet under, --or completely leave ya hangin'! *wink! Good 'ol Bob Powell has a blast-o-frightenin' fun with this ghoulishly haunting Harvey horror classic from the December 1951 issue of Black Cat Mystery #32.

Little Miss Gruesome / The Unbeliever

If you remember back in February I posted a couple creepers from the late 50's Pastime Publications issue of Weird Mysteries #1, a black and white one-shot (click HERE.) Now today we have a deuce of doom from a similarly spooky all-star artist mag-- the November 1959 issue of Eerie Tales #1 (also a one-shot and now the publisher name has changed to Hastings Associates.) Featuring illos from golden age greats, Bob Powell and Paul Reinman, plus a nice painted cover from George Tuska, Eerie Tales #1 is a fun, and sometimes very funny collection of horror tales, and at 52 pages long, you were certainly getting your money's worth, as the rest of the issue included terrors from Al Williamson, Gray Morrow, Joe Orlando, Jack Sparling, Angelo Torres, etc...!
