Today’s Lou Cameron classic marks the start of a crime / horror theme I have planned until Friday. We’ll also see the return of Ken Shannon vs. the undead, as well as the third and last Rex Lane “Solver of the Supernatural” story. Plus an exceptionally odd submission that you’d never expect from this blog, but one that fits right in with our other horrifically hardboiled blood curdlers.

Wow, what a great one this is! Some truly amazing art--I love the cinematic compositions, esp. the one with the cockroach in the foreground on page 3! The expressionistic stuff is great too--the years stretching out behind him on pg. 2, the devil with dollar signs in his eyes, the newspaper bust-through! But the "killer" has to be that massive kitchen explosion on pg. 6! Ka-boom!
Poor Sheik! Some guys just CAN'T go straight! :)
If you think this guy is cold hearted wait until you see tomorrow's post! I shudder just thinking about it...
Also, I apologize for the Maltese Bippy post and the incorrect air date, I totally read it worng in the guide so I've just deleted the post altogether. Thanks to Chuck for pointing it out.

FANTASTIC CAMERON STORY! I WAS ACTUALLY GOING TO REQUEST A LOU TALE AS YOU USED TO POST HIS STUFF PRETTY REGULARLY AND HADNT IN AWHILE. THANKS KARSWELL!
LOOKING FORWARD TO CRIME HORRORS WEEK, ESPECIALLY MORE KEN SHANNON AND REX LANE!!!!!!!
I agree, good artwork. The explosion was particularly well done -- and used as a nice excuse to slip in some cheesecake. "Hey, her dress burned off!"
In the last panel of p5, I thought McCloud was going to blow himself up. That would have been ironic.
And in the last panel, Bleek and the police captain both look a little too happy. "Haw, haw! The two crooks killed each other and saved us some work. How's about a beer?"
Yeah, the cops are definitely rather ghoulish throughout. Which is especially great since, all through the story, Sheik is TRYING to commit murder but doesn't actually succeed until the last, when he ends up on the slab himself! These flatfoots got it in for him!
>>a nice excuse to slip in some cheesecake
I was going to say the same about the bath/strangulation scene! Hubba-hubba-bubba-bath! :)
Great story. I like crime stories as much as the horror.
My favorite bit was the devil with dollar signs in his eyes. Nothing like a little humor with your horror sez I if its done right.
Great stuff. I was too young to remember the pre-code comics, so it's a special treat for me to come by & read yours.
you know he's evil because he has a moustache
For now on I'll try to set some days aside per month to feature more crime based horror tales, seems like everyone enjoys these just as much as the flat out creepy crawlerin' ones.
Tomorrow--- I MUST KILL!
I have to say that Satan's little cameo on page 3 is my favorite part of this one. The dollar signs are just awesome.
Fantastic post! I'll have to dig around in your archives for the other Lou Cameron stories now.
Happy birthday to meeee... I'm not surprised that Old Nick showed up.
