Midsummer Night's Horror

After the previous month of vampires, banshees, and other assorted supernatural fiends, it's time to unleash the tragic tale of an unrelentless, ultra violent, human monster. This shotgun rampage of brutal crime originally saw print in the August 1948 issue of Law Against Crime #3, published by the very short-lived, Essankay, who appears to have only existed for two years, releasing two different series titles for a whoppin' total of only 4 issues. Great L.B. Cole cover on this one, and yep, Wertham hated this issue of course, mentioning it in his infamous Seduction of the Innocent book.

Fredric Wertham Cooked His Research?

THIS JUST IN: In an absolutely amazing story, Carol Tilley, a professor of library and information science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, went through the research notes that anti-comics crusader Fredric Wertham took on his interviews with research subjects for Seduction of the Innocent, his book on the social and psychological impacts of comics—and discovered that he was faking the data. Blueprints For Delinquency (ARTICLE)

Speak of the devil... here’s a typically annoying article from the May 1954 issue of Reader’s Digest, written by everyone’s favorite over-reacting, child-hating psychiatrist, Fredric Wertham, M.D. (FYI: the M.D. stands for Mega Dick.) This is actually just a condensed excerpt taken from his infamously ridiculous 1950’s comic book exposé “Seduction of the Innocent.” Enjoy?
