A Model Murder / The Collector!

Two things I love most in life: building monster model kits, and collecting comic books-- and awesomely enough there are two shivery stories on both subjects fondly found lurking in the frightening July 1979 issue of House of Mystery #270. If that isn't enough, this post also contains two more favorite things of mine: the Creature from the Black Lagoon-- and bikinis!

The Collector, page 4, panel 4 is the most late 70s panel ever!

70s DC post-code output could always be depended upon to have fabulous art. The spook in Collector is incredible, Ruby is memorable and the Unbelievable Stories cover is great. Even something that is merely an establishing panel like page 1, panel 3 is awesome.

The art in a model murder is also great. I love the more heavy lined but clean style. Works really well in the middle of page 3 with both the back of the monster and the woman in the bikini, it's a fun style I don't see a lot of in modern comics (at least that I read.)

The stories? Workable.

I really loved the first page of The Collector. Second page is pretty great too. I love it when comic book artists draw meta comic book art. Jim Sherman and Joe Rubinstein make a great team. This is the perfect middle ground between caricature and cartooning for me. I love the big eyes and the shiny shadows. This story would look great printed on velvet!

I'd read comics printed on velvet for sure, haha
