With today's post, we're now halfway through the August 1971 issue of
Nightmare #5, (see the last two posts for more), and what would any collection of horrific monster stories be without one about nazis!
Serg Morgan pulls out all the stops on another artful
Skywald atrocity... enjoy?

The American-centric nature of this story really sticks out if you are at all into history; the Nazi's hated the Russians with a passion, they actually liked the English and the Americans as colonial powers, they war Hitler actually wanted was to be allied with England and invade Russia as their colony, as England had colonies across the seas. As Mestiere said, in 43, they'd be a lot more worried about the infiltration from other counties. The English were a lot more into secret ops than then we (the Americans) were.
I like this one, story wise, a lot better. The vampires are obvious, so it's not so much a snap ending, and it's played pretty straight. The art is excellent with the right air of menace to the Nazis, and somewhat cartoonish depiction of the SS head.
It's always fun in horror to have the obvious setup of super-duper bad guy gets his desert.
Brian is right about the delusions of Hitler. Luckily for us all, it ultimately cost him the war.
This nice art just screams out to be coloured. I'm liking this issue. Thanks for posting!
Forgot to post about the Don Post mask ad. Those things are AWESOME! I wish I owned some -- though they're probably all rotted to nothing by now.
The Mussolini rubber mask in that advertisement is a weird touch, too. When does Il Duce ever get equal billing in the costumes department?
The Nazis certainly did fear the Russians more than the Americans. If the Americans captured you, you'd be imprisoned. If the Russians captured you, more than likely you'd be driven to the woods and shot.
Wow, how long has Don Post been in business? Interesting masks of Hitler, Mussolini and Nick Offerman, er, Stalin. Surprised that they didn't include a mask of Tojo or Hirohito.
WOW!...always a treat to wake up to a nice NAZI horror tale, taken to the NEXT level of "COOL-OSITY", by advertising from Don Post, displaying these sick masks you can actually wear, as you READ!!...I will be sure to post photos of "Hitler" reading of his exploits back in the day!...Thanx, Steve, as always, for your demented, & very entertaining THOIA!!!!!
