Flowers on Deborah’s Grave

Adventures into Darkness #9 starts off with a great Alex Toth story called The Hands of Don Jose… but it’s been re-printed so many damn times over the years in other horror comic collections that I’ve opted instead for this other hauntingly ignored Toth-esque styled tale from the same issue. Anyone know the artist? [GCD now thinks it's Mike Sekowsky. -- Nequam] I’ll also admit I think this is actually the better story of the two, if not for the sole reason that it features someone taking out their pent-up anger on an entombed corpse--- with a live lobster! Yep, learn something new (and grisly) everyday…

that is so weird to use a lobster....... why didn't they make it a hungry rat instead or something???? whatever still a really eerie story love the corpse sitting in the chair on the last page

I guess they were trying to keep the New Orleans flavor by using the lobster, even though they are more about shrimp & crawfish there. I guess it'snot as effective to have a bunch of crawfish dumped in the grave. Although, a body is completely incinerated in a stone sarcophogus in the New Orleans heat within 3 years, so technically that couldn't happen....

Not the most competent work i've ever seen, but done right, those silent panels would be chilling.

They could of kept the "New Orlean's flavor" by having her dump an alligator into the tomb too. Still I think this is an oddly different, subtly disturbing story... the desecration of a corpse isn't the cheeriest of subject matters, especially when the grieving father accidently dies at the end without ever getting in some good old pre-code style vengeance on the witch in question.

THIS DOES LOOK ALOT LIKE TOTH..... YOU SURE IT ISN'T?

It's not listed on the Toth website (see my links below) so I'm assuming it's someone else.

This one made me a bit hungry.

Hungry for corpse flesh or cajun crawfish salad?

Late addition...this is not listed as Toth because it is typically the work of Mike Sekowsky. Probably with Mike Peppe as an inker and both trying to make it look as much as Toth as possible. But those guys looking straight into the camera are as Sekowsky like as you can get.
