Head of the Medusa

Rudy Palais had a unique style as displayed here in one of his better stories. I mean it, his stuff literally squirms and creeps right across the page... I can remember re-reading one of his stories over and over when I was a kid and it just totally freaked me out everytime. I also think that if there was one guy on the entire planet who should've been illustrating H. P. Lovecraft adaptions full-time it should be Palais!

Whatever those writers were smoking,i wants me some!,this is the most far out Medusa story ive ever seen, but at least it stays true to the greek myths description by giving her a hideous face, rather than her being a hottie with snakes for hair, this story is such cheesy fun, like Tod Brownings DRACULA;"look, its taking her into the jungle",hilarious. Also on the subject of good people to do HPL. illustrations, see the WEIRD TALES painted comic book covers by an obscure-ass painter named Ekgren(now i KNOW he isn't in the GCD list, and im sure hes not a rapping yellow demon.)he may be a blank slate, but those covers are freaky!.

Matt Fox did some nice lovecraft illos in the pulps, & that great Dweller in Darkness cover for Weird tales in 1944. I wish he did more!

The funny thing about HPL in my opinion (and this may come off as sacriledge to some) but as much as I love and respect the guy I think other writers took his mythos concepts and did them better, like Robert E. Howard, Bloch and Kuttner for example. Even Derleth's mythos are more exciting to read and less long winded and rambling.

Anyone ever read A Night in the Lonesome October? God I love that book. I read it every Halloween. Awesome Awesome Awesome. Something about Gahan Wilson's artwork is just so creepy that it overwhelms the (seemingly) inept style.
