If I Had the Wings of...

Can't have an Atlas Fest without the good old, piss poor dental hygiene horror of weird ass Al Luster! And if you thought Mr. Snake Fingers was over the top in our previous post, wait'll you get a load of this bird-brained Adventure into Terror (#23, from September 1953.) Plus, Carl Burgos cover art!

Snakes Alive

Like our previous post, this story is also from the November 1953 issue of Adventures into Terror #25. And for those of you experiencing deja vu with that title, yesss, THOIA has another entry in our Ace Magazines archive HERE bearing the exact sssame name --which also confused me into thinking I had already posted this slithery Atlas classic! I guess I may as well post the full-page "Snakes Alive" novelty gag mail-away offer again too... gosh, I'd love to find one of those ties.

A Very Grave Matter!

We still haven't found our way out of this groovy graveyard of horror, so let's see how our favorite coffin maker is doing with his latest client. And judging by the title of this story, I'm guessing not so good! From the November 1953 issue of Adventures into Terror #25, with art by big bad Bill Benulis.

We Can Hardly Wait

It's back to the 'ol gruesome graveyard again, as THOIA continues now with our Atlas 2024 Festival of Fright... and hey, is that the dinner bell of doom I hear a'ringin'? Bon apetit, my friends, --via a different kind of graverobber! From the June 1953 issue of Adventures into Terror #20.

Hair I Go Again!

Annnnd hair we go again with another year of classic horror comic madness! It's hard to believe that THOIA is now in its 16th year of petrifyin' posts, and we seriously couldn't have done it without the handful of you that still continue lurking around and commenting, not to mention the occasional wonderful donations of super scans and other assorted scary suggestions. So to those of you out there reading this (and you know who you are) 2024 is deadicated to you for your continued fiendish fellowship and endless, eerie interest! Okay, let's pick things up where we left it all off last year with MORE ATLAS! From the July 1953 issue of Adventures into Terror #21, and fearturing art by the great, Gil Kane!

Midnight Massacre

Load up those tommy guns, ya dirty rats, it's time for a HOLE new way to send ya's screaming into 2024! Yep, while most of you will be drinkin' it up and smoochin' in the New Year tonight at midnight, THOIA and AEET has a whole different evening scheduled for ya! Two terror tales from the same great Atlas issue, spanning both of Mr. Karswell's blogs to ring out the old-- and creep in the new! So after you finish todays story here, click the banner at the end to head over to AEET for an even creepier celebration, from the June 1953 issue of Astonishing #25. HAPPY NEW FEARS, everyone!

Silence! / Don't Make a Ghoul of Yourself!

Time for a Double Dip of Dick-- Ayers that is, --by anonymous request! What's up with all of you anonymous people lately?! Oh, and since Brian Barnacles snarkily screamed at me for "more Atlas!", it's now time to kill two kooky bird brains with one post! First up, from the June 1952 issue of Astonishing #14, it's a weird and (shhhh! mostly) wordless tale of terror, followed by a ghastly graveyard ghoul-o-rama from the August 1952 issue of Astonishing #16. I've even rounded it all out with an excellently eerie cover by legendary Bill Everett! We're sort of spiraling out of control here at THOIA, so stay tombed for more as 2023 slowly winds down... down... dowwwwwn...

The Whisper of Egypt

Here's a weird little Egyptian oddity recommended to me by "anonymous", featuring a particularly vicious panel of gory crocodile violence. I'm not sure I would have recognized this as Dick Briefer art, if not for the mysterious, sunken-eyed man who shows up at the bottom of page two (he looks distinctly Briefer-esque and right out of Dick's Frankenstein comic series!) Anyway, it's a fun little filler tale from the August 1952 issue of Airboy #102. Everyone have a nice xmas?

The Throwback!

Like our previous post, here's another weird Fiction House entry, this time from the Winter 1953 issue of Ghost Comics #9, and with art by Bill Discount. It's a kooky circus freak tale that quickly devolves into a time-warped tale of prehistoric cavemen and cavewomen gone wild! Prepare yourself for--
