Sawing a Woman in Half in the Haunted Theatre!

After a brief hiatus we return with a fun tale of magic and mystery from the November 1945 issue of Super Magician V4 #7, featuring Blackstone the Magician and his lovely, leggy assistant Rhoda, as they encounter all kinds of criminally macabre mayhem in a haunted theatre! (FYI: THOIA and AEET will likely continue to take on a more random schedule as we progress into the spring and summer months ahead. I'm currently very busy on a variety of personal projects, --but never fear, when I have anything of quality to share it will definitely be posted! Thank you all, and as always, stay totally tombed for more...)

Now that's a bait and switch, the splash blurb does not exactly say this but is worded like you're going to be in on the illusion. Sure, you get the bullet proof screen (what act is that for? That seems dangerous!) but nothing for sawing the lady in half! Come on, Blackstone, throw us a bone!

I liked it. It's one of those mid-40s crime with a twist comics. I love the old school skeleton costumes and the demon mask and the necessary hunchback (who they call hunchy, even criminals can't be that much of jerks!)

I love all the dark house tricks and everybody running around and punching each other.

Happy Easter!

That story was totally beyond the realm of incredibility! As are all those awesome skeleton men, frankly. I'd love to see that trio bumbling around in every story. That's my idea of a great forties comedy team. I suppose the artist just drew black silhouettes and then used the white-out to mark in the bones. The effect is really very cool.

It's a real cliche, but you almost always expect professional magicians to be paranormal debunkers. Especially a non-fictional magician, even if it's in a fictional story like this one. But when Blackstone is told the place is haunted, his only reply is "Too late. The trucks are unloading."

And he doesn't have a single debunking kind of line anywhere else, like during that mirror scene.

If Professor Phanterio hadn't had Hunchy on his team he would have been caught much earlier. He was the only competent henchman in the whole lot.
