We’re developing a theme here this week, but don’t be simply fooled by the word “witch.” You’ll just have to stick around all week to see what’s up as THOIA drags you along to face its greatest fear together… and kicking things off with a weirdie originally presented in the Dec ’52 issue of Strange Tales #13 (scans from the April 1973 re-print version of Vault of Evil #2), followed by a wild Ace vampire yarn from the Jan ’52 issue of The Beyond #8.

That first one actually had a great sense of humor. "You'll have to stop being so mean to mother." Classic!
"This ring from the skeleton's finger bears Anne's mother's name. These must be her bones..."
Yes sir! Nobody ever bequeaths their jewelry to their heirs. I love comic book logic. Notice that I am wearing one of my grandfather's rings right now. Rev up the identity crisis.
Lots of really loose brushwork today. I particularly liked all the plump rounded edges and playful textures in the first story. Love those moody impressionistic skies.
What a couple of oddballs. It took me the longest time to figure out that was a mirror in the last panel of the first story.
As for the second story, I want to know what college admitted Dan. Can't help but wonder if becoming a vampire would've made him any smarter.
I HAVE THAT VAULT OF EVIL REPRINT TOO AND ITS ALWAYS BEEN ONE OF MY FAVORITE STORIES. GOOD TO SEE AN ACE TALE AGAIN, ITS BEEN AWHILE.......VAMPIRE SISTERS YES!!!
At first, I thought 'The Witching Hour!' was one of the dumbest tales I've read on THoIA, but then the ending came and I laughed… and laughed… and laughed. Good one!
Thanks again, Karswell. The last month was great, but July promises to become even better!
Ahh, the welcome return of "snake grass."
Snake grass mixed with a last second revelation = pre-code magic!
And someone remind me to add more ACE stories for July too.
Lots of really loose brushwork today.
