Pool of Eternity

The jungle isn't really my favorite horror setting, but add in some head shrinkers and blowgun dart torture and I’m there! This one has some neat twists and a truly horrific ending… plus, the always excellent art from Lou Cameron is just what the (witch)doctor ordered.

From the December 1951 issue of Mysterious Adventures #5

Ooh, nice one. Kind of reminds me of one of those stories from the Amicus Vault of Horror movie (or was it Tales from the Crypt?)--the monkey's paw gone wrong. Or did I dream it?

EWWWWW! WHAT COULD BE WORSE THAN LIVING FOREVER AS A SHRUNKEN HEAD ON A STAKE?

Cameron delivers another classic! Thanks!

Vicar, there is a 3-wish monkey's paw type story with a magic statue in the Amicus Tales from the Crypt movie called Wish You Where Here... the dead husband is brought back to life forever because of poor word choice from his wife, and since his body has already been embalmed (and then later chopped up with a sword) he's thus doomed to live an eternal existance hacked to pieces with the acidic fluid eating him from the inside out. Such a pleasant way to go!

That's the one, Karswell. I remember that one giving me the serious heebie-jeebies as a kid.

Of course The Monkey's Paw also gave me nightmares. It's really true that suggestion is often more powerful than a reveal.

Tragic.usually in a horror story i can't wait for the big death/punchline/twist,but here i actually wanted them to escape their fates.sad.hmmm,wonder how Max the drunken severed head feels about this....

Haven't seen him over here in awhile. But you know how those Rondo Award Nominees can get...

I was actually wondering which shrunken head style people prefer more: lip strings trimmed close to the flesh, or left long and dangling?
