Legendary John Severin was mentioned in the comments of a recent post, which got me thinking that it's been a minute since we saw any of his mastery around here. And paired-up with another master, Boris Vallejo, and one of his all-time hottest cover paintings ever, well, I'd say we have ourselves one helluva way to kick off our macabrely weird weekend! Not only that, but how about a peek at the awesome original Boris painting too! Quite a difference in the two, eh? And say, don't forget the model glue now, cuz you'll be sniffin' up a sad storm of Aurora monster kit kiddo memories before it's all over! This is one truly packed, and utterly perfect post... from the March 1975 issue of Weird Tales of the Macabre #2.

Dead Man's Revenge
It just wouldn't be Halloween without a vicious visit from the greatest monster of 'em all-- Frankenstein's Mobster Monster, that is! This dynamite, Jay Disbrow crime horror updating of the Mary Shelley classic is from the September 1952 issue of Shocking Mystery Cases #50, and is seriously packed with awesome art, and tight, uniquely compact story telling as only Disbrow seemed to know how to do (and all done in a mere 6 pages, no less too!) Star Comics definitely got their money's worth out of Jay (as well as utilizing L. B. Cole on those gnarly great covers), --it's just a shame they couldn't have used a better quality printer as nearly every single thing they ever published looks rotten. Oh well, hopefully this won't hamper damper everyone's overall joy and celebration of this oddly overlooked, Golden Age, creature feature monsterpiece!

Hugo at the Monster Rally (AD)
A fun, comic book style ad for one of the best Kenner hand puppet toys of the 70's --you could even wear the interchangeable disguises on your very own face --it's Hugo the Man of a Thousand Faces! Dracula ("BLYAH!"), Frankie ("HYUCK!"), the Wolfman ("YIPE!"), and heck, even Peter Lorre ("SNERK! SNERK!") showed up for this one! BEHOLD:

Going - Going - Real Gone!
Okay now, we've been doing "April Fools" around here since 2007, so at this point in the blahhguh game there's really no point anymore in me, errrr, I mean Mr. Karswell, trying to pull a fast one over you guys! Instead, we'll just take a look at another fun MAD magazine wannabe yarn featuring some silly supernatural spirits (including a funky Frankenstein's Monster, boney 'ol Death, a headless Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Horseman, and a super stoned Casper clone midget), doing their absolute worst at scarin' a buncha haunted house invadin', hip cat college kids and their fast yappin', jump ' n jive nonsense. It's kooks 'n spooks a'plenty, and it's from the Fall 1954 issue of Madhouse #4, with art likely by those krazy be-boppin' Iger Shop kool kats. Ya dig?

Frankenstein Meets Boris Karload: Master of Horror
It's been a few years since we encountered Dick Briefer's freakishly funny Frankenstein monster, and what better time to get a chill and a chuckle than on the first day of Fall 2022! Some really nice Karloff caricature work here by 'ol Dick as well. From the Jan - Feb '48 issue of Frankenstein #11.

Horror at Haunted Castle!
Last month we saw Dick Ayers' classic Ghost Rider take on the Frankenstein's Monster out west, so this month let's see how the beautiful Blonde Phantom tackles said undead creature, --from the Summer 1947 issue of Blonde Phantom #14! This might very well be the first ever Frankenstein Friday around this blog... it's definitely the first time I've ever posted a Blonde Phantom adventure here! Enjoy!

Afraid!

Can't get enough of these Frankie stories lately, can we?
