Queen of Horror!

Time to wrap up the month of February 2024, as well as our Vampi Horror Host Fest! And this one is also from another early issue of the great black and white Warren series, the November 1962 issue of Vampirella #2 to be exact! Dick Piscopo's art has both good and not-so-good moments visually, but it's a fun story none the less, taking place on various horror movie sets featuring mummies, vampires, werewolves, and even a Creature from the Black Lagoon type swamp monster! THOIA will return in March for mucho more macabre horror hits-- stay tombed!

The Curse / Purification

If you've somehow never read Wally Wood's "The Curse" which first appeared in the January 1971 issue of Vampirella #9, then you are in for an eye-poppingly visual, horror adventure treat. I had a big intro I was working on for this but then ultimately just deleted it so you can simply take it all in for yourself and instead let the incredible illustrations do the talking. I've also rounded out the post with a funny little 3 page quickie from the April 1972 issue of Vampirella #16, highlighted by even more great cartoony art by Joan Nebot.

Ghoul Girl

In all the years I've been producing this blog, I've posted less than a half dozen stories from Warren's original b/w Vampirella magazine series. I'm not talking about Vampi's own ominous adventures, I'm talking the ones where she horror hosts the various tales of other macabre monsters and murderous mayhem. Maybe we'll finish out the month with a few frightening examples, and let's start it off with this hot lil specimen from the June 1970 issue of Vampirella #5. Yep, this plan also gives me an excellent excuse to post Frazetta covers too! Tough titties from Drakulon to any complainers...

What Drove Him Bats?

How batty have you ever been driven? I bet it wasn't as batty as the hero of today's tale, but of course you still have plenty of time to improve upon that lurid life quest if you try hard enough and simply ignore the townspeople's warnings! From the July 1975 issue of Witching Hour #56.

Come in and Meet the Folks!

Here's one for all the guys out there who found themselves a fresh new love on Valentine's Day. Hope things are working out for ya. and uhhhmm, well, you do know what s-s-steps in a serious relationship come next, dont'cha? That's right, --meeting lovey's parents! And real quick, there's also a lesson to be learned here about over-reacting and jumping the gun a little, so be sure to take some notes, for cripes sake! From the August 1953 issue of Astonishing #26, art by John Forte.

Satana's Fatal Beauty

What happens when you go looking for love and beauty in all of the wrong places? And is this even a good Valentine's Day story? I'll leave that up to you. Smallish scans donated by one of the Tommys I believe, sorry I can't remember, --maybe I just need Satana's Fatal Brain Capacity to help remind me! From the August 1952 issue of The Beyond #14, and highlighted by some really fantastic art from Robert S. Pious.

On the Other Side of Death's Door

While many of you are participating in Super Bowl festivities this evening, let it be known that Mr. Karswell is instead going beyond the call of football, and working extra evil hard on the other side of Death's door! So far beyond in fact, that it's actually from the March 1952 issue of The Beyond #9. And what's this? Doth we detect a love story in the mix here as well? Hmmm, well, Valentine's Day is just a few hops, skips, and jittery jumps away too, so yeah, I guess this is a sort of lurid mini theme featuring lovebirds in peril or something...
