Invitation to Horror

If that last terror tale left you feelin' hazed 'n confused, THOIA has yet another invitation to a dark 'n weird night of thrills 'n chills in a spooky old house-- and maybe this time an ending with an actual explanation-- one you definitely won't see coming! From the June 1944 issue of Suspense #4.

Haha, Bela Gulosi and Horace Furloff! Hope that gave a few of you a real good chuckle... okay, something not so cheery comin' up next for our twisted 13th post of May! Stay tombed...

I think Bela and Horace have a couple lawsuits incoming!

The art is kind of charming. On page 4 the artist got a bit carried away with Betty's er ... chest region. That said, the person never scrimped on the backgrounds, had a decent feel for camera angles and staging. Even the talking head panels were interesting. It's really good work for 44.

BTW chloroforming people is not the safest thing to be doing! Those guys were taking a whole hell of a lot of chances for their little experiment!

... and Betty, maybe a "gee!" isn't the best thing to say after that explanation. Maybe a large string of swear words would be better!

I will admit, I didn't see That one coming!

This kind of stiff, superflat art feels like paper dolls, cut out and collaged together into a kind of two-D puppet show. Surely that's a life-size cardboard standee they are abducting at the bottom if page four. I love the last panel on page one, with the three color-coded figures barely overlapping on the car seat. I like the whole top row of the last page, too.

Neat story. Today's mad science: Marketing R&D. Coming up next week: Inhuman Resources.

Haha, thanks for the comments, and glad a few of you liked this one anyway :) I have something much more gruesome up next to finish out the month-- bring along a barf bag!

I for one, just loved the old time feel here. The splash reminded me of Lily Renee's style. I enjoy outside the panel work as exhibited on pages one and three. Utterly unbelievable ending after ending after ending. Shades of 80's horror movies. This for me was terrific, beautiful, a true winner. Thank you Mr. K., appreciation is sent your way.

I like the art here!

I wouldn't have been a very good sport about the whole thing.
