The Corpse That Lived!

From the October 1953 issue of Out of the Shadows #10 comes this terrific Toth quickie that manages to tell more story visually (and educationally) in just three pages then most stories can manage in 8 or 9. Also not a reprint!

This one starts like many tales of vengeance from the grave , but has a surprise ; an happy ending and from the last caption seems like a real life story ...
Even with a three pager like this , Toth manages to create a perfect atmosphere and characterization ...
Thanks

Reads more like a "Ripley's Believe It or Not" comic from Gold Key! Fun.

So wait...is this for true? I have heard legends before about buried-alive folks being freed by grave robbers who summarily sh*t their pants upon discovery, but this is the first time I've seen Walter Scott's mom singled out as the buried babe.

I remember having to slog my way through Ivanhoe in high school...at that time, I probably would have wished she'd stayed underground. :)

I ASK THE SAME QUESTION, IS THIS TRUE? I CAN'T IMAGINE HOW HORRIBLE IT WOULD BE TO BE BURIED ALIVE....... PROBABLY THE WORST FATE EVER. OR BEING CREMATED ALIVE. NICE LITTLE TALE THOUGH, BEAUTIFUL ART, AND THIS MAY SOUND WIMPY BUT SOMETIMES A HAPPY ENDING IS WELCOME VS YOUR USUAL ONSLAUGHT OF GLOOM AND DOOM. HAAAAAAAA

Doesn't really answer the question as to the veracity of the story, but discusses it at some length...

Thanks Fred, lots of interesting reading and additional links there for those interested in the truths and myths about being "buried alive." Also, maybe I read someone's comment at Mudcat wrong but it seems that Sir Walter Scott's mother was interred in a mausoleum, not a graveyard as Toth's illustrations depict, with the actual act of the graverobber cutting off her figure to get her ring that was the traumatic catalist for her sudden revival from her narco/coma state. Shiver me timbers!
