Murder in Wax "Starring: A Corpse"

It's Midweek Murder-thon time again, so lets crack open another perfect pair-up of crime horror mystery cases guaranteed to knock your nylons off and well into next week! Hollywood dick, Dan Turner has himself a heckuva of handful trying to straighten out a murderous screwy angle or two while on a macabre movie set in, "Murder in Wax", from the July 1953 issue of Crime Mysteries #8. But first, Hollywood glamor girl, Queenie Starr starrs in the new Sam Wilde horror picture over at Paragram Studios, (via the July 1952 issue of Crime Mysteries #2), and if she's not careful, she too could find herself playing the lead corpse! Heater bangs, head bops, horror chops, and heavenly babes a'plenty-- what more could you ask for in a THOIA Double Feature, anyway?

Kiss of the Vampires!

After last Friday's feast of flesh appetizer, I'm guessing some of you might still need a little liquid refreshment to wash it all down! So today thy cups be runnethin' over a'plenty with a brutal vampire saga from the April 1973 issue of Nightmare #12. Chic Stone unleashes all kinds of head loppin', stake stabbin', sinister blood slurpin' sexiness, --where even the vampire hunter himself realizes too late that even he's bitten off just a bit more than he can chew! This is definitely one of the best ever Skywald entries in my opinion, and it contains quite a few panels I've seen taken out of context / tumblr'd endlessly over the last decade or so. And stay tombed-- the actual main encore corpse chow-down is up next!

I Married a Teen-Age Fly

Sunday Fun Days are here again with a wild, satirical whack at horror comics from the 1950's, and it comes courtesy of a midcentury girlie magazine to boob-- errr, boot! Of course, this could also easily be whackin' it at sci-fi horror film classics like I Was a Teenage Werewolf (1957),  The Fly (1958), and I Married a Monster from Outer Space (also 1958), but let's just stick with the blurb's intention from the back cover of the memorable, March 1959 issue of Fling #13. Some really nice, titillating artwork here by cartoonist, Don Magolis, and while the writing isn't quite up to a MAD or Cracked level of crazed, sight-gag filled hilarity, it's still worth the handful of chuckles and everyone's attention for the risque / mad monster mash-up freak factor alone!

Kronos--Zagros--Eborak!

Some of you may have pondered: "When did Mr. Karswell first get hooked on Satan?" And the answer comes via the very first time I read a DC horror comic yarn illustrated by the ever fearsome, Frank Thorne! More precisely, the August 1976 issue of House of Mystery #244. This wildly wicked story is overloaded with great Kashdan moments: a sinister brainwashing ceremony, half-nude cult cuties, a kick ass kung-fu fight in a steam bath, and a final page with more clever twists than a pentagram shaped pretzel! If you've never read this one, you're in for a treat. And a very special "Kronos--Zagros--Eborak" to those of you lovin' that diabolically demonic Luiz Dominguez cover below, too!

Nest of Horror!

From the teeming, steaming jungles of our previous post HERE, to the weird, webbed corners of spooky outer space, it's now time to blast-off into more long-legged, blonde bombshell adventure as Gale Allen and her gorgeous Girl Squadron face some bloodthirsty butterfly men! Sounds kinda silly doesn't it? But you have no idea how creepy-crawly alien butterfly men can be! And don't even get me started on the giant space slugs-- ughh! From the May 1944 issue of Planet Comics #30, and highlighted by some really fantastic artwork from Fran Hopper --making her THOIA debut, finally! After witnessing the blonde bombshell, ass kickin' horror action of our previous post HERE --I feel this voluptuous vibe has totally set us up for a wild, week long theme! Enter another fair haired, hard hittin' honey, this time in a juicy jungle jolter from the July 1954 issue of of Cave Girl #13! The great, Gardner Fox wrote the script, while Bob Powell delivers the va-va-va-visuals and pummlin', powerhouse savagery of manhandlin' Carol Mantomer, aka Cave Girl-- who makes her dynamic debut here at THOIA too, I might add! If you ever wondered what Poe's Pit and the Pendulum would be like in a jungle setting, well, --it's swingin' your way NOW!
