The Ghoul of Ghost Swamp

We've just put another FULL issue to rest here at THOIA! Yes sir, todays tale from my crumbling, water-logged copy of Web of Evil #13 is the final entry (check the last 3 posts for the other stories) --and as we start a whole new month of posts while winding down 2013, you know there's lots more on the way! Keep it tombed right here for THE BEST precode horror tales on the web!

This one had the man-disguised-as-monster-and-the-real-monster-shows-up twist that we see from time to time in the comics.
(Return of the Swamp Beast! that you posted back in March 30, 2009 was a shorter, but scarier tale.)

I wonder if this comic story would be considered the first appearance of a Swamp Thing or Man Thing looking creature.

That's a pretty high body count even for precode. It almost comes off like a slasher movie. I like the way the boat is floating in the air on the cover, too. Makes me wonder if they've altered the original image to reposition or enlarge the victims?

I have to give the artist credit for making a believable "suit monster." From page 1 it looked like a guy in a suit. Usually there's a bit of cheating involved in stories like this.

The monster looks all the world like Marvel villain the Porcupine!

I've very entertained by the "ghost swamp" sign, in a happy, comic balloon font!

Yeah, I like these tales that are almost too goofy for their own good, especially ones where a monkey shows up for the big twist ending and kills someone.

JMR777 is right. He even has the Man-Thing's "snout."
