Anti-Christmas

One of my all time favorite comments from a THOIA reader was a simple, one word acknowledgment to this Warren xmas horror story I posted here waaaay back in 2007. It said simply "vile." So to spread a little more vile cheer this year, here's an encore presentation of Richard Corben's unholiday classic, from the January 1975 issue of Creepy #68. Hope everyone got some gory goodies this year, and if you snagged a chilling ZOMBIES book or an issue of HAUNTED HORROR in your stocking, send us a picture-- we'd love to see your frightened little faces on xmas mourn!

"Vile"?
I would say "Accurate Representation of the typical Bible Thumper mentality" Is the sadly more accurate description.

It's A story that should make some people think. But that seems sadly beyond their mental capacity.

It very much shows the influence of both Rosemary's Baby and the Exorcist (just like Marvel created Son of Satan around the same time.)

That said -- full disclosure, I'm an atheists so I don't mind stories critical of religious conviction -- it's a bit heavy handed. While their is the redeeming priest, the other is just a 2D cut out.

Still, it's a great story and it's Corben, so you can't go wrong there.

The irony of a Warren Christmas story -- more full disclosure, I'm a huge Warren fan -- is that Warren, as a publisher, was the ultimate Scrooge. He really mistreated his staff, and he had some of the all time greats on it.

Merry Xmas and hopefully more great years of pre-code to come!

Brutal. (Also amusing to note that pre-Internet people had problems with the word "hypocrisy" too.)

Representation of the bible thumper mentality indeed. Interestingly, I found myself shocked that they showed the woman nursing the baby. Perhaps the comic was not drawn in the United States, as we tend to be insanely puritanical about that sort of thing.

When I first started this blog I had a handful of religious goons occasionally leaving comments and being all uptight and lame like it was the 50's still... that shit don't fly here at THOIA, ever. Enjoy the sacrilege, friends, we have nothing here to hide.

And thanks to Mc Kiernan Daniel Kian for letting me know I had a page of out order here! That happens occasionally and I do appreciate it when people let me know! At least I posted it correctly the first time back in 2007!
