Sorry... Mr. Hopkins!

It's been awhile since I posted a terror tale by my all-time favorite comic creater ever-- Mr. Bill Everett! And here's a good one from ever reliable Atlas Comics and from one of my all-time favorite pre-code series', originally presented in the May 1952 issue of Mystic #8.

Interested in more Bill Everett? Last month Fantagraphics Books released Fire and Water: Bill Everett, The Sub-Mariner, and the Birth of Marvel Comics, click HERE for more info!

Everett can whip up such a mix of the "realistic" and the cartoonish, it's quite surreal. and the witch's true form is almost an Ed Roth creation!

Yeah, that last panel was really worth all the anticipation. I love it when Atlas uses the sheer predictability of the story as one of its strengths, and this is probably the best use of title-as-punchline I've seen in a while, too. Lastly, I think the cover of this issue is particularly handsome.

But not so much as the cover of that FIRE AND WATER book--Holy cow that is really really good work.

Well, it wasn't much of a surprise ending, but I loved the trip - beautiful work by one of the greats.

Is it me or does the fortune teller look like Gonzo from the Muppets?

Either that or Gonzo from the Muppets!

Yeah, it's kind of wild how even given away in the splash panel that the closing shot is still so effective.

Doesn't get any better than Everett in my opinion, Mr Pick!

My pleasure Daniel.

Thanks or the comments, more horror on the way as Halloween gets closer and closer and closer and closer...
