A Skeleton in the Closet

Time for a tale of macabre mad science from the August 1953 issue of Strange Fantasy #7, and highlighted with what is seriously one of the most inconsistently illustrated skeletons in the history of pre-code horror comics. That's not necessarily a bad thing, just a fun observation, and just maybe you Eerie Pub fans might recognize this yarn as it was reprinted over a half dozen times in over a half dozen different Eerie Pub titles throughout the scary 60's and even into the icky 80's! So hold on to your shivering skulls-- there's a skeleton in the closet!

The Walking Dead

Welp, I thought I had already posted this one here yeeeeears ago, but I guess I just got it confused with all the other countless THOIA archived stories with the words "walking dead" in the title! It's a real good'un too with joltin' John Forte artwork and a ghastly Gene Colan cover to electrify your brain at the gate! From the January 1954 issue of Menace #9.

What Was It?

I had this story saved to post on Memorial Day but then we got sort of sidetracked with the Jess Jodloman spotlight. So here it is, a late holiday horror hit from the August - September 1951 issue of Dark Mysteries #2. Some really spooky, atmospheric visuals in this one-- from the panel packed nightmares of war moments, to the eerie chill of foggy cemeteries and candlelit crypts. What. Was. It?!

Things Like That Don't Happen

Jess Jodloman became our spotlight artist for the month of May, so here on the final day of the month is our last post highlighted once more by his splendidly spooky illustrations. And say, if anyone's heading to the beach today to celebrate the holiday weekend, be sure to steer clear of the older area of the boardwalk, especially one particular coin-op mechanical fortune teller machine with the uncanny ability-- good or bad-- to see right through you! One Way Passage / Mummy Dearest

Everyone seemed to enjoy the Jess Jodloman artwork featured in our last post, so I dug around a bit and found another tale by him for you, a terrifically satanic passage from the May 1986 issue of Elvira's House of Mystery #3 via DC, with some ferociously hellacious Halloween devils heatin' up the last five flaming pages! And while most of you know that I'm not the biggest fan of Elvira (I am forever dedicated to Team Vampira), I was actually quite a fan of this short-lived series back in my teenage high school days. And just to make things even more eerie, how about a 3-page mummy quickie from Elvira's House of Mystery #8 as well, with equally astounding art by killer Kerry Gammill too!

Beware the Snare of the Tarantula

Found a spider in my attic last night which reminded me of the fantastic fright film classic, The Fly (1958), but it also reminded me of this downright shiver inducin' creepy crawly chiller from the May 1975 issue of Witching Hour #54. The art is by Jess Jodloman which isn't a name that rings many bells around this blog, --I'll absolutely have to rectify that immediately as this is some of the spookiest post code horror I've seen around my own sector of the web in quite awhile...
