Continuing with the Edgar Allan Poe entries of "Famous Tales of Terror", this time around from the November 1944 issue of Yellowjacket Comics #3. There are a lot of nightmarishly fun visuals here, and hey, if you need help decorating for a Halloween party next year, be sure to refer back to this story...

Mad props to the folks at Yellowjacket comics, they are really doing these tales justice! And way back in '44 they already have the random skulls and demons.
Always like looking up the artist and nobody I know, but supposedly did the "Diana The Huntress" which smells a bit like a rip-off!
Even with the big teeth, the rats are very ... disney-ish. I also like the random pseudo vulture. Another fun one, keep them coming!
This was a hell of a lot more fun than the Vincent Price movie.
I'd have thought those rats might prefer his sauce-covered hand to those ropes, you know?
I'm totally enjoying these Yellojacket Poe stories. I am so used to versions of this one that just ignore the pit to focus on the pendulum that I was actually surprised to see it mentioned here at all. My only criticism is that I might have liked a little more of a stab at indicating this dungeon's oft-mentioned darkness by the colorist. At it stands, the place is lit up like a shopping mall at Christmas. The protagonist's hallucinogenic descent into fatigue and horror are rather well done, though, and certainly on point for seasonal shopping.
Now I have "The Sword of Damocles" playing in my head. A welcome break from Christmas covers.
