Today's Werewolf Wednesday post is inspired by the recent reveal from the Devil's Workshop that they're creating a new collector mask based on Warren Kremer's hairy scary cover creature from the November 1950 issue of The Beyond #1 (CLICK HERE for more mask info and to pre-order now-- or scroll to the bottom of this post for a sneak peek too!) Looks pretty good, and very consistent with the quality of the previous mask releases in their precode comic cover series line. And speaking of the comic itself, I thought I had already posted the cover story from this issue years ago, but after realizing I have in fact not posted it, well-- here it is! The wolf man in the story looks nothing at all like the cover werewolf, but it's still a ravenously rollickin' terror tale all the same...

I really like the look of this werewolf, even better than the more famous werewolf cover. It's kind of vampire/werewolf combo, and the first panel he appears at is great!
There's some really fine and dynamic art in this. It's very clean (I think one other reason the werewolf has an interesting look.) And who doesn't love a monster in slacks?
I forgot that werewolves had hypnotic powers -- that comes out of nowhere and really doesn't change the story at all, he could have just as easily turned while walking her home.
I appreciate a precode story that doesn't even attempt some kind of surprise at the end. It actually seems very fresh that this one just illustrates the arc and impact of events. So many stories gamble the reader's goodwill on a trick ending that may or may not have abandoned any claim to plausibility in order to be surprising. But this story is true blue. From the very beginning it keeps us in the loop, even when that requires switching character POVs to do so. That feels pretty rare.
I really like page two here. That middle row is aces, both he panel Mr. Barnes pointed out, and the one beside it too--with its negative space eerie with anxious fog lines and dimly glimpsed branches.
