The Werewolf Strikes

An interesting ACG nazi (were)wolf tale from the Dec - Jan 1950 issue of Adventures into the Unknown #14, --it's a bit on the predictable side but still a lot of fun, and the oddly eerie transformation panels certainly make it worth the read. I really enjoy Bill Ely's artwork, it's perfectly suited to the story and helps move the wordy drama along nicely like an old B-film from the 40's or 50's. (Cool cave man cover art by Ogden Whitney.)

"Here's dating a werewolf and doesn't know it!" I had to lie down for a while after that one!

The Wolf Man was in '41, so that was a number of years before this comic but this comic sticks to the older version of werewolves, i.e., the ones that become complete wolves. But it sticks with parts of the movie lore (created in that movie) with things like the silver knife (it was really The Wolf Man that popularized that, it wasn't particularly part of the legend before.)

The splash looks like a woman and her wolf playing an adorable game of patty-cake!

Werewolves are my favorite monster (and it seems I'm not the only one.) Great selection of stories!

BTW: How not hide if you are a werewolf. Live in the town of Wulfstadt (next to Wolfenstein,) have the last name Lupus, and have a werewolf on your coat of arms.

>Loving Wolf Week!

I'm gonna try to do more themed weeks in the future, any suggestions (besides just saying "All Atlas Week") let me know, and be specific about a particular subject or genre.

Haha! it's like How to Not Hide if You're a Vampire: Live in Fangfort (next to the graveyard), have the last name ALUCARD, and have a bat on your cape of arms.

How might you kill the time you have to wait till the murderer reveals herself as a vicious German Shepherd dog-monster and you can finally get on with your master plan of stabbing her to death with a hidden silver knife? Well, if you're a total psychopath I guess you guys could make-out. Italians sure are flirty. Does her mouth still taste like your dead friend?

Mmmm, can't beat that dead friend after taste!

More werewolf insanity up next! Thanks for all the hilarious comments

The first page with the girl in the red skirt and wolf facing each other- it made me think of a whole new retelling of little red riding hood.
In the retelling of the tale, the wolf shows up to pester red riding hood but she turns into a werewolf! You will have to figure out the rest of the story yourself since I don't know what should happen next.

I'll second Mestiere's thing. I was thinking that a horror week of sci-fi stuff would also be good, which could include invasion horror and non-religious apocalypse stuff. Or perhaps a week of pranks gone terribly wrong.

ALL Noted! I'll have to go back through the archive to see what I've already posted for those themes as I know I've done a few sci fi fests, as well as a prank week once or twice too. Mad scientists too. Thanks!!

I usually don't go in for "renegade Nazi" suspense stories because there are SO MANY of them (including, I guess, horror and SF ones). But this one was somehow more original than most.

I've almost never seen a "monster hunter" character more who's more cautious about getting the right amount of evidence than this one. Sure, he's already a detective so he WOULD think that way, but still, he mentions that worry about ending up in the booby hatch if things go wrong and he can't prove anything. (Even Kolchak at the end of the original NIGHT STALKER decided to finally go ahead and fight the vampire without all the evidence, and sure enough, he got in big trouble for it.)
